Hi,

Thanks to all our members and supporters for making 2012 a great year for increasing sustainable homeownership for Hispanic real estate consumers. Our Christmas party was a great event and a lot of fun for those who were able to attend. We continued our monthly educational programming and business afterhours events to provide networking opportunities and to empower real estate professionals who serve our Hispanic community. With the rare exception of a couple of weather related issues our events are being well attended and membership is increasing.

In January we had a presentation on Real Estate issues focusing on seller market activities including multiple offers and backup offer best practices. Coming up we are having our economic development update from the City and County of Denver who is a CAHREP member and long time supporter. Stay tuned for details, you won't want to miss it.

As we look forward to the rest of the year we know it is a great time to fine tune your time management and set goals with an action plan to make sure you stay on track. Once again I would like to thank our volunteer Board members for their time, effort and passion for making it possible to carry on our mission.

Will the Recovery Continue?  A Look at Housing in 2013

2012 was the year that the U.S. housing market began its long-awaited recovery. Will the recovery continue in 2013, or will we see another setback? And what are the implications for real estate professionals-especially those who specialize in distressed properties?

Most economists and market analysts agree that the housing market turned the corner in 2012 and was in the early stages of a recovery. All the metrics were pointing in the right direction: housing starts were increasing; pending sales and median home prices were improving; sales of both existing and new homes were up significantly from 2011; and foreclosure activity was down 25 percent from its peak levels in 2010.

Next Generation Buyers: Savvy, Sophisticated and Ready to Buy

If you want to know who will push the economy forward in coming years, look no further than Generations X and Y. The Generation X and Y age group, ranging from 18-48 is 103 million strong making them a group of consumers and eventual homebuyers that will make a major impact on the market.

I had the opportunity to listen in as Sherry Chris, President and CEO of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate spoke at the 2012 NAR REALTORS Conference and Expo about the buying habits of Generations X and Y.

Below is an excerpt and my key takeaways from her presentation and the details surrounding a recent survey released by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate.
