Beat the End of Summer Blues

"...Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do,
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues"

Have you noticed there is just a hint of fall in the air?  That the days are slowly getting shorter?  Are you asking yourself how it could be August already?  Trying to pack in those last few trips camping and wondering how to get everything done when the kids go back to school or off to college in just a few weeks?

When we flip the calendar to August 1st, it's easy to wonder where the summer went and to get caught up in the summertime blues.   But there IS a cure for the summertime blues that can sometimes catch us by surprise in August.

Summer doesn't end until around September 22nd when the Fall Equinox begins, so you still have 1/3 of the summer left to make happen what YOU want for the rest of your summer.

This "last 1/3 of summer" is actually among the most pleasant times in Colorado.  Flowers have had time to establish themselves and are still blooming at their peak, and the weather is often perfect for enjoying them.  The weather is often just right for outdoor exercise- a bicycle ride, a walk- whatever you enjoy.

  • Focus on spending time on activities and with people you enjoy (this is a good tip for beating the blues anytime of the year!).
  • Play "how you spent your family vacation/summertime" with family and/or friends.  Gather round and reflect on precious memories.
  • Embrace the now.  As some of the hot, hot weather recedes, we may find ourselves with energy to try new things, or tackle some items on our to-do list.
  • Returning to regular schedules can actually feel comforting and meaningful as we can feel more productive and organized.
  • Celebrate!  Take a walk in a neighborhood park and enjoy nature.  Or use this time to see some of those friends and families that you have been meaning to get together with, and celebrate the last third of summer together.
  • Pick a time to fondly say good-bye to summer and welcome in the beginning of fall, another great season in Colorado

The weather was beautiful for over 325 golfers, guests, and volunteers to enjoy golf, great food catered by Famous Dave's BBQ, and fun, at the
5th Annual Putt Your Stuff Miniature Golf Tournament. The emcee, Foundation Board Member Neal Browne, kept the evening lively and entertaining. Thanks to the generous support of corporate sponsors, board members, staff, and community donors, this event raised over $20,000 for Jefferson Center programs and services. See you next year!
