| Thanks to Our Members Who Met with Women Justices from Armenia |
On November 20, 2015, several members of the NHWBA met with female justices from Armenia to discuss how to promote women in the legal system. The Armenian justices were hosted by the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire and were participating in the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program. Thanks to our members who were able to attend this unique meeting.

| Please Donate to the Marilla Ricker Portrait Fund |
At this time of year, we reflect on those things for which we are truly thankful. For many of us, one of those things is our right to practice law, but that right was not always available to women. In 1890, women were not allowed to practice law in New Hampshire even if they were licensed in another state. Attorney Marilla Ricker changed all that. She filed a highly controversial lawsuit in the NH Supreme Court challenging the exclusionary practice of admitting only men to the practice of law...and won! Petition of Ricker, 66 N.H. 207 (1890). There are only seven portraits of women hanging in the NH State House. In 2013, legislation was passed requisitioning a portrait of Marilla Ricker, albeit without state funding. The NHWBA and the League of Women Voters NH have collaborated to raise funds to complete the Ricker portrait. We are off to a great start, but we still have a long way to go! As you think about what your career means to you, please consider donating to the Marilla Ricker Portrait Fund. To review a brochure about the fundraising efforts, click here.
