Spotlight on Our Member

Congratulations to Jaye Rancourt, who was selected as this year's Philip Hollman Gender Equality Award recipient.  Jaye is a shareholder and director at Brennan Lenehan Iacopino & Hickey in Manchester and focuses her practice on criminal defense and family law.  She is the immediate past president of the New Hampshire Bar Association.  During her term as president, she introduced a program entitled "When Love Hurts," with the goal of preventing teen dating violence.  She and other attorneys have spoken at local schools about the program.  She was also a panelist at last year's NHWBA Work Stress Relief Clinic and spoke about the challenges of finding work-life balance.

Jaye will receive the Hollman Award at the Gender Equality Breakfast during the Midyear Meeting on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Radisson/Center of New Hampshire.  To purchase tickets to the Gender Equality Breakfast, click here

Help Us Tell Our Story

For the past several years, the NHWBA has been an exhibitor at the NHBA's Midyear Meeting.  This year, we will again be an exhibitor.  We would love your help in telling our story to the many attorneys who stop by our table.  In your own words, please tell us why you choose to be a member of the NHWBA. We would like to share our members' stories about the value you receive from your NHWBA membership.  If you have time to write a short statement, we will incorporate it into the displays at our table.  Please e-mail our Executive Director, Gretchen Pyles by February 13, 2015, with any statement you would like to share, and if you will be attending the Midyear Meeting, please stop by our table.

Join NHWBA members as we volunteer for Lawline, the Bar's free telephonic legal advice service.  We will be answering callers' questions ranging from landlord/tenant issues to employment law.  You do not have to be an expert in any special field.  Callers are just looking for guidance.  Do they have a case?  Is this unlawful?  Where should they go?  The NHBA provides a long list of resources.  Pizza or sandwiches will be provided.

If you can volunteer your time for this worthy cause, please register here.

UNH Law invites you to be a mock-interview hiring attorney for a student workshop on February 19, 2015.  The round-robin format involves a student having a mock screening interview with an attorney for about 15 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of feedback.  Attorneys would do three interviews with three different students.  The total time commitment would be approximately an hour and a half.  Students gain valuable practical experience when they can interact, even briefly, with experienced practitioners.  This is a great opportunity to share your expertise and recall how far you've traveled since law school.  UNH Law would love to have you join them.

If you would like to participate, please contact Eleanor MacLellan at UNH Law via e-mail or phone at Eleanor.MacLellan@law.unh.edu or 603-513-5108.

The webinar is directed toward equity partners and also will provide equity track women attorneys with valuable information they will need in the future.  It offers tools to ensure that pay is comparable to contribution so that women will be less likely to leave their places of employment and the legal profession altogether.  To view a video sneak peak, click here.
