News and Events:
January 2014

Greetings!

Words cannot describe how proud I am to open the newsletter that will share with all of you a series of amazing accomplishments by our talented members.  It is a true testament to the depth and breadth of the talents of our members that we had to work at cramming all of the good news into a single newsletter, and even at that, we reserved some additional good news for next time.

The entire NHWBA is especially proud to share in the joy of our very own Past President Heather Krans being awarded the Philip Hollman Gender Equality Award.  I encourage all of our members to attend the Gender Equality Committee Breakfast at the NHBA Mid-Year Meeting, so that we may make a strong showing in support of Heather.  I would also encourage all of you to attend the Investiture Ceremony where Magistrate Judge Landya Boyer McCafferty will be sworn in as the first woman to serve as a United States District Court Judge for the District of New Hampshire.  What a momentous occasion!

As always, please keep us informed about the achievements in your life and profession, be they great or small.  One of our greatest joys is sharing in the accomplishments of each and every one of our members, so share your news with us, and spread the joy!

Best regards,

Holly J. Barcroft, President

New Hampshire Women's Bar Association

NHWBA News

Congratulations to Heather Krans

on her Selection as the 2014 Recipient of the

Philip Hollman Gender Equality Award

Past NHWBA President, Heather E. Krans, will receive this year's
Philip Hollman Gender Equality Award at the Gender Equality Committee Breakfast to be held at the New Hampshire Bar Association's Mid-year Meeting on March 7, 2014. Heather is well deserving of this award.  She is of counsel to the Stein Law Firm and concentrates her practice in the areas of domestic relations and appellate law. She has been selected by her peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America (2013, 2014). She has been named the Best Lawyers' 2014 Concord Family Law "Lawyer of the Year." Heather is also listed as a "Rising Star" in Super Lawyers® - Rising Stars Edition (2010, 2011, and 2012).  In 2012, she was admitted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), an association of the nation's leading practitioners in the field of family law. She is one of only four lawyers in New Hampshire to be so credentialed.

She recently chaired the Family Law Section of the NH Bar Association and in 2012, she was appointed by the NH Supreme Court to serve on the Professional Conduct Committee of the Attorney Discipline Office. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the Women's Fund of New Hampshire, and recently completed a six-year term as a trustee of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England.  Heather was President of the NHWBA from 2004 to 2006 and helped expand our organization.

Congratulations to Heather on this honor!

NHWBA Member, Jennifer Turco Beaudet, Named to the 40 Under 40 by the Union Leader

Congratulations to Jennifer Turco Beaudet on her selection as one of the Union Leader's 40 Under 40.  Jennifer is an associate at Primmer Piper Eggleston & Cramer where she focuses her practice on commercial litigation and appellate law.  She has been named as a Super Lawyers' Rising Star since 2011.

Jennifer is the New Hampshire State Leader for the Young Survival Coalition, which is a national organization that focuses on the unique issues faced by women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 40.   We were pleased to have Jennifer as our featured speaker at NHWBA's Reception Honoring Cancer Survivors this past October.  Jennifer is also on the Board of Directors for the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Coalition's AmeriCorps Victim Assistance Program.  To view the Union Leader article regarding the 40 Under 40, click here.
