January 2013

Greetings!
While I was driving to work yesterday, I heard on the news that Monday, January 21st was "Blue Monday." Blue Monday is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. For starters, it's a Monday. It also falls in the middle of winter at a time of the season when we don't have the holidays around to distract us. Believe it or not, Blue Monday even comes with its own formula. According to a press release by a mental health charity, the formula is:
[W + D - d]TQ
MNa
where weather=W, debt=d, time since Christmas=T, time since failing our new year's resolutions=Q, low motivational levels=M and the feeling of a need to take action=Na.
If you found yourself blue on Monday or any other day, perhaps you could use a break from it all. Why not join us at our 11th Annual Work Stress Relief Clinic? We are now taking reservations for our annual retreat up north. We will return to the Inns & Spa at Mill Falls on April 5th and 6th. We will be joined by Betsy Black, who will lead a round table discussion entitled Take a Break: Building Space for Reflection, Recreation and Renewal. You can also take advantage of a special 15% discount on spa services of your choice.
So, relax, indulge, and join your NHWBA colleagues for some much-needed relaxation!
Best regards,
Holly J. Kilibarda, President
New Hampshire Women's Bar Association

Spotlight on our Member
Our spotlight this month is on our member, Lucy C. Hodder. Lucy is the 2011 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award recipient and the newly appointed Legal Counsel to Governor Maggie Hassan. Prior to her appointment, Lucy was a shareholder in the firm of Rath, Young and Pignatelli, P.C., and was the chair of the firm's Healthcare Practice Group. She is a renowned health care, regulatory and employment attorney who was named Lawyer of the Year - 2013 for Health Care Law by her peers, according to Best Lawyers® and she has been included as a Best Lawyer since 2006. Prior to joining Rath, Young and Pignatelli, Lucy served as a New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General from 1993 through 1997. Lucy is also a board member of the Women's Policy Institute and was appointed to the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Women beginning in 1998, and chaired the commission from 2003 to 2004. She received her bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1986, her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1990, and has served as an adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire's School of Law. When Governor Hassan appointed Lucy to the position of Legal Counsel, she had this to say "Lucy Hodder is a dedicated advocate on behalf of the people of New Hampshire, and I am proud to have her serve as my legal counsel. Lucy's unmatched level of expertise on many of our state's most pressing priorities will help us address our challenges to keep New Hampshire moving forward." Congratulations to Lucy on this recent appointment.
