 All children are at risk for losing some of what they have learned in school over the summer break. In fact, research shows that, on average, children lose about 2 months of skills over the summer, which is about 25% of the school year. Mavericks -- children with a strong visual brain -- are at even higher risk than the verbal child for losing skills over the summer. This is because Mavericks almost always come from visual families, and visual parents most frequently select summer vacation agendas that offer a lot of outdoor visual activities - camping, hiking, swimming, boating, picnics, sight-seeing, going to the movies. Magnificent Maverick Moments
 As part of the training programs, parents are required to report back to me about how particular exercises went, and also how their "brain (re)engineering" is translating to their school work. Here is what one Maverick Mom wrote to me recently about her son: Dr. Florance, My son wrote an essay at school on his own where he wrote: "I have a language disorder. Dr. Cheri L. Florance

Dr. Cheri Florance pioneered the scientific basis for Brain Engineering to address language and communication problems originating in a strong visual brain interfering with the development of the auditory-verbal brain, sometimes mimicking the symptoms of Autism Spectrum, ADD, PDD, Aspergers and other disorders. She named this visual brain syndrome the "Maverick Mind," and wrote the book Maverick Mind based on her findings and her personal experience with her third child who was diagnosed as autistic, but who is now a college graduate and engineer, and completely symptom-free.
Dr. Florance now has an international practice, working with Mavericks all over North America and Europe, as well as Greece, Cyprus, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, and South Korea. Her training programs and consultation practice follows best practice standards of the U.S. Dept. of Education, the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, and the International Classification of Diseases.
