Greetings!
There are not many diseases that seem to target the affluent - people who graduate with the highest degrees from prestigious universities and exceptionally successful professionals, especially engineers. But many new reports lately have been noting the high incidence of autism spectrum disorder in these groups and looking for answers.
It is a hot topic among MIT alumni. Others have noted a surge in autism and Asperger's among children in Silicon Valley.
I will be addressing this phenomenon in my webinar on April 23rd at 12pm noon Eastern Time. You can register by clicking HERE.
Another Blog Talk Radio Interview If you aren't familiar yet with Coffee Klatch on Blog Talk Radio, you should definitely check it out. Host Marianne Russo founded this on-going program to interview experts and others who work with special needs children and their families.
Russo and one of my former clients who now works with her, Ange Eaton, have been interviewing me for a series on the over-working visual brain and symptoms that are frequently mis-diagnosed as autism, Asperger's, ADD, PDD, and other disorders. The interview from March 13 is now posted on the Coffee Klatch web site. You can listen to it by clicking HERE.
Talk to Me
If you are parent who is new to the idea of brain engineering, I hope to see you at my upcoming webinar on Tuesday, April 23 at 12pm noon ET. And if you can't make that date, schedule a time to talk to me by phone -- call, email, or go to our online calendar to make an appointment. I offer a free half-hour initial consultation, and would be interested to hear about the strong visual brains in your family tree.

Magnificent Maverick Moments
One of the many things I do when I am working with the families of Mavericks is to help train them to be an advocate for their child within their own school systems.
Sometimes, I also meet with key school representatives who are working with the child. We usually meet via conference calls or Skype, but sometimes I do an actual "Hometown Visit" to meet with the parents and school representatives face-to-face.
And it all pays off, even though it is sometimes very hard work. And it is especially rewarding when I get a report like this from a parent, which I did recently:
Hi Dr. Florance, I wanted you to see the observation that was made of Jacob in the mainstream classroom on March 11th. We are thrilled with his progress and at today's meeting they agreed to add 30 minutes to his mainstreaming time, to include another academic block plus snack. They also planning to give him his own iPad to use for visual accommodations, including schedules, social stories and organization. We welcome your feedback on this observation, his aggressions now average about 4 a day, which is a huge improvement from the fall. Thanks [from Jacob's mom] |
Free Initial Consultation

The purpose of this free consultation is for Dr. Florance to review symptoms and family history to determine if she can help you.
Her first question is always about whether there are visual thinkers in the family tree: architects, computer experts, physicians, artists, dentists, engineers, pilots or accountants. All Mavericks who have gone through her programs have a history of visual thinkers in the family tree.
The second question is what are your top three goals? If they relate to attention, memory, processing, listening, speaking, reading, writing or the frustration or withdrawal that follows from lack of skills in these areas, then Dr. Florance will recommend a more comprehensive evaluation.
Nearly all parents who have a screening say that this is an extremely valuable session and that is why, as a mother and scientist, Dr. Florance offers these free consultations.

Dr. Cheri L. Florance
|
Dr. Cheri Florance pioneered the scientific basis for Brain Engineering to address language and communication problems originating in a strong visual brain interfering with the development of the auditory-verbal brain, sometimes mimicking the symptoms of Autism Spectrum, ADD, PDD, Aspergers and other disorders. She named this visual brain syndrome the "Maverick Mind," and wrote the book Maverick Mind based on her findings and her personal experience with her third child who was diagnosed as autistic, but who is now a college graduate and engineer, and completely symptom-free.
Dr. Florance now has an international practice, working with Mavericks all over North America and Europe, as well as Greece, Cyprus, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, and South Korea.
