If it's not Autism or Asperger's, what could it be?
An over-working visual brain can overwhelm the human communication system, which is the main way we connect with our family, learn at school, and make friends.

Greetings!
I'm offering my class Introduction to Brain Engineering for parents and other adults who are new to my teachings.
In this webinar , I explain the signposts of an over-working visual brain -- a " Maverick Mind" -- and the similarities between Maverick symptoms and the symptoms of autism and Asperger's as described by best practice standards.
I will also cover the basics of what "brain engineering" is and how it is used to resolve the Maverick symptoms and bring the visual and verbal brain processing systems into harmony.
The result is a happier Maverick because improved verbal attention, memory and processing leads to a relief of frustration, anxiety and tension.

Coffee Klatch Radio Interview
I highly recommend this internet radio program, Coffee Klatch Radio, which is described on its web site as "a virtual cup of coffee for parents of special needs children bringing you award-winning authors and experts ..." The radio show was founded by host Marianne Russo, who says she wanted "to give parents what I so dearly needed and did not have when I started on my journey, the empowerment of confidence and hope." Marianne and former Maverick Mom Ange Eaton have been interviewing me for a four-part series about my work with Maverick children and adults. Listen to the first interview in this series by clicking HERE.
Talk to Me
If you are parent who is new to the idea of brain engineering, I hope to see you at my upcoming webinar on Monday, March 25 at 7pm ET. And if you can't make that date, schedule a time to talk to me by phone -- call, email, or go to our online calendar to make an appointment. I offer a free half-hour initial consultation, and would be interested to hear about the strong visual brains in your family tree.

The Affluent Autistic
Why have there been so many news reports recently commenting on the rise in the number of diagnosis of autism and Asperger's among children in the well-to-do segments of our population, such as Silicon Valley parents and MIT graduates?
That's what Dr. Florance was asked recently in two different interviews - one in Education Review, and the other on the Gerber Baby Blog. You may be surprised to hear what she has to say. Here is a sample:
Gerber Baby Question: Are pediatricians generally familiar with Mavericks? Dr. Florance Answer: It is recommended at the 4-year-old well-baby visit by The American Academy of Pediatrics that all children have a speech-language and hearing evaluation as part of determining readiness for a good school entry. A Maverick, with high visual and low verbal scores, can appear within normal range when scores are averaged. A composite score at the 50th percentile which is an average score could come from visual scores at the 99th and verbal scores at the 16th percentile .Further, if a child doesn't listen well or speak easily, testing can be quite problematic, and what is actually a communication disorder can look like a behavior problem. Dr. Dennis Cantwell, a world-famous UCLA psychiatrist on autism and Aspberger's, wrote considerably about the confusion between psychiatric disease and communication disorder in the doctor's office, at school, at the speech-language pathologist or psychologist's office and by parents. "Children with communication disorders" is not typically a course in medical school. It depends on the medical school and the community medicine rotations. I have taught physicians for over 30 years in independent studies, psychiatric hospital rounds, neurological impaired patient rehabilitation meetings and grand rounds. The differential diagnosis of psychiatric disease and communication disorder is complex and that is why Dr. Cantwell devoted his life to this work. I had the privilege of working with him for five years, thinking about this process together." To learn more click here or email me at braindr@cheriflorance.com for more information. Free Initial Consultation

The purpose of this free consultation is for Dr. Florance to review symptoms and family history to determine if she can help you.
Her first question is always about whether there are visual thinkers in the family tree: architects, computer experts, physicians, artists, dentists, engineers, pilots or accountants. All Mavericks who have gone through her programs have a history of visual thinkers in the family tree.
The second question is what are your top three goals? If they relate to attention, memory, processing, listening, speaking, reading, writing or the frustration or withdrawal that follows from lack of skills in these areas, then Dr. Florance will recommend a more comprehensive evaluation.
Nearly all parents who have a screening say that this is an extremely valuable session and that is why, as a mother and scientist, Dr. Florance offers these free consultations.

About Dr. Florance

Dr. Cheri L. Florance
|
Dr. Cheri Florance pioneered the scientific basis for Brain Engineering to address language and communication problems originating in a strong visual brain interfering with the development of the auditory-verbal brain, sometimes mimicking the symptoms of Autism Spectrum, ADD, PDD, Aspergers and other disorders. She named this visual brain syndrome the "Maverick Mind," and wrote the book Maverick Mind based on her findings and her personal experience with her third child who was diagnosed as autistic, but who is now a college graduate and engineer, and completely symptom-free.
Dr. Florance now has an international practice, working with Mavericks all over North America and Europe, as well as Greece, Cyprus, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, and South Korea.
