Introduction to Plastic Materials & Processing
Designed especially for individuals working in the plastics industry who want to increase their understanding of plastic materials and applications, this course provides an understanding of plastic materials, tooling, processing and testing, with an emphasis on injection molding. Participants will learn about different types of plastic materials and how material choice relates to part performance.
Participants will apply knowledge gained to improve day-to-day work and be able to communicate effectively with various disciplines within the industry.

Schoolcraft to offer new health classes with new partnership
Schoolcraft College's Continuing Education and Professional Development department has partnered with MPRO (Michigan Peer Review Organization) to offer educational programs on a variety of healthcare topics for the general public and healthcare professionals. Some classes are approved for continuing education contact hours for nurses. The winter 2014 offerings include Healthcare Reform: What Everyone Needs to Know, Meaningful Use Stage 1, Meaningful Use Stage 2, Engaging Patients in Their Own Care, and Security Risk Assessment for Meaningful Use. MPRO is an independent nonprofit organization and a national leader in health care quality improvement and medical review. It serves as the federally designated quality improvement organization (QIO) for Michigan under contract with the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, MPRO's staff consists of physician reviewers, clinical quality improvement and patient safety experts and statisticians. MPRO provides expertise across the continuum including; hospital, nursing home, home health, physician office and managed care settings.

What's In A Name?
The Michigan Small Business (& Technology) Development Center has made a huge and exciting decision...we are changing our name. Beginning this month, SBTDCs throughout the state will be known as SBDCs.
A bit of background ...
In 2001 Grand Valley State University became the State Host for Michigan's SBA small business development center program. Then in 2002 we boldly sought the "T" designation by following the lead of North Carolina in building a statewide technology commercialization assistance program. We were the first SBDC to successfully pass the rigorous A-SBDC technology accreditation. At present, only 11 states hold this designation. With that technology commercialization distinction came, however, the "cumbersome" T amidst our name. What did that T "do" for us; was it worth it? Yes!

Schoolcraft to offer Medical Coding Training with new partnership
Schoolcraft College's Continuing Education and Professional Development department has partnered with Anthelio Healthcare Solutions, Inc. to provide a comprehensive, convenient, fully on-line program for ICD-10 Coder training. Created by experienced, credentialed coders from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), this customized program includes three distinct modules: Anatomy and Physiology, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS. Upon successful completion of each module, students will receive a certificate from Anthelio®, AHIMA ICD-10 Ambassador.
