What's Happening at CUNY Citizenship Now
Recent Events: On May 10th, we held our annual Citywide Application Assistance Event at John Jay College in Manhattan, just one week after the end of our annual Call-in. Our staff and 254 trained volunteers joined to assist 382 green card holders. The New York Daily News wrote an article about participantsWendy and Nicole Brown, twin sisters who came to the event seeking citizenship assistance. The New Americans Campaign (NAC) and Carnegie Corporation of New York opened a booth in which participants and volunteers couldspeak about what citizenship meant to them. Many NAC members who are based outside of New York sent representatives to our event to give a hand at the various stations. We hope they had a good time with us. We also counted on the expertise of the staff of our other sponsors. Thanks for your support. Click here to read the full list of sponsors and see photos of the event. On May 31st we held an event in the Bronx, sponsored by Assembly Member Victor M. Pichardo. We helped 76 participants, out of which 44 completed their application for naturalization.

At a citizenship event in June 2014 you assist a participant named Laura. She describes her situation and you find out she received her green card on September 1, 2011 through her marriage to a U.S. citizen. She had married six months earlier. She is still married to and living with her husband. She has never traveled outside the United States and has no criminal history.
Q. What steps would you encourage Laura to take to apply for citizenship?
