What's Happening at Citizenship Now!
|
Volunteer of the Month Fanny Lauby has been a Citizenship Now! Volunteer Corps member for almost two years. Since then she has attended many citizenship events and really likes the unexpectedness of it all. She is originally from France and is currently an international student at the CUNY Graduate Center. As a volunteer she looks to make a positive difference in someone's life. She recently attended one of our several Deferred Action events. Read more about Fanny and other Corps members!
Recent Events
CUNY Citizenship Now! recently held three Citizenship Application Assistance Events in Queens and Manhattan. Our first event in Queens was developed in partnership with Queens Borough President Helen Marshall. This event was unique in that it took place in the midst of the holiday shopping season at the Queens Center Mall. Our other two events were held in conjunction with MOIA as part of the NYCitizenship initiative. A few lucky participants were told that they did not need to fill out the N-400 and were elated to find out that they were already U.S. citizens. Read More.
CUNY Month Recap This year's CUNY Month begun with us having to postpone or cancel a couple of events due to the unfortunate events related to Hurricane Sandy. However, during four weekday events held on various CUNY campuses, over 60 volunteers contributed more than 800 hours of service to New York's immigrant community. Many volunteers changed their normal schedules to come and lend a hand. Of the 130 participants who attended these events, 107 left with completed N-400 applications ready to mail. We would like to extend our thanks to all of our dedicated volunteers, as well as the staff at Bronx Community College, Baruch College, Queensborough Community College and Borough of Manhattan Community College for making our events possible. We could not have done it without you, and we're looking forward to next year! Read the Full Events Recap..

You are assisting a participant to complete the Form N-400. When you get to question 16 in Part 10.D on page 8 of the form, you ask the participant whether she has "ever been arrested, cited, or detained by a law enforcement officer." She responds "no" but that she received a speeding ticket for $200 about two years ago and another ticket about a year ago for $150 for failure to stop at a red light. How do you respond to question #16: Yes or No?
