Burgundy on Broadway
Burgundy's sixth graders are ready to bring our community two fun evenings filled with Broadway tunes in next week's production--Burgundy on Broadway: Make 'Em Laugh! The shows are next week, Thursday and Friday, February 25 and 26, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Loft. Tickets are $5 adults, $1 children at the door. Concessions will also be available for purchase. To preview the show, here's what some of the young actors had to say:
"It's been really really fun putting it all together," Mia Colazzi said. She's one of the announcers for the show, so she splits her time singing and dancing with the group and taking on an emcee role. She's been impressed with how her classmates have learned to cooperate and work together in rehearsal.
Priel Felton, who's new at Burgundy this year, has also had fun preparing. After missing some rehearsal time during snow days, the group is working to catch up. Priel said the funniest part of the show is a "Who's on First" routine that the audience will enjoy. He's a lead in "Me and My Shadow," and the dancing is his favorite part.
Fieruda Michael is the dance captain for the production. "You can tell a story with dancing," she said. She has drawn on her extracurricular dance experience to help her classmates pick up the choreography steps. Fieruda was quick to say she's seen a lot of improvement in the group!
Robert Williams said he spent most of the weekend helping at the set build with his dad. Robert was still a little nervous as show week approached, because the performers are still working on some choreography. But he's looking forward to his six costume changes!
Auction Update: RSVP Today! The auction invitation has gone out, and we are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, March 5. Get your reservations in early--you won't want to miss this party!
Please help us get ready by sending an RSVP, yes or no. This is important for our logistics and planning, especially the delicious catered dinner courtesy of Stephanie Babin, Michael Babin and Neighborhood Restaurant Group. Anyone who RSVPs prior to midnight on Thursday, February 25 will be entered into a raffle to win a $100 Visa gift card.
If you cannot attend, please select "1" in the "I cannot attend" line. Remember, everyone--even those who cannot attend--are welcome to purchase raffle tickets or Kids' Creations. If you have problems registering, please contact event@burgundyfarm.org.
Parents, please feel free to invite friends who'd like to get an introduction to the wonder of Burgundy by attending the Auction!
Author Visit Cancelled So sorry to disappoint so many students, but author Dan Gutman has had a family emergency which has forced him to cancel his entire tour for Flashback Four, including the planned visit to Burgundy next week. The good news is that he will still provide personalized, signed bookplates in the books that were ordered. The books will be delivered to school within the next several weeks. Students' books will come with a poster as well! |

Board of Trustees Election Results
Thank you all for voting in the recent Board elections. The community input into these elections are so important for maintaining the strong governance structure at Burgundy. The Committee on Trustees is pleased to announce that Chad Breckinridge has been elected for his first three-year term beginning July 1 on the Board of Trustees. The Committee is also grateful for the continued service of current trustees Dale Johnson and Joanne Petty, who have been elected to serve a second term beginning July 1.
What We're Reading Head of School Jeff Sindler wanted to share archival material from The New York Times, including previously unpublished photos, that highlights moments in black history. "They and the text with them are extraordinary," Jeff says. The Times is adding material throughout February to mark Black History Month.

Tony Lewis and Norman Weinfeld, both from the Burgundy Class of 1961
|
Burgundy Bulletin Tony Lewis '61 recently met Norman Weinfeld '61 for lunch in Old Town. They had neither seen nor spoken to each other since the last day they were in Maxine Ropeshaw' s 4th grade class at Burgundy in 1957. They spent lots of time talking about classmates back then, growing up in Alexandria during the 50s, and what they've done over the years. Tony lives in Alexandria and Norman in California, but they agree that Burgundy friendships are forever! |
