Board Briefs The Board of Trustees met Thursday, January 21. The Board adopted the 2016-2017 budget and discussed upcoming events to include the Burgundy's 70th Celebration on Saturday, February 6 and the Annual Meeting of the Corporation/All Parent Meeting on Tuesday, February 9. Lastly, the Board approved the following slate of candidates for election to the Board of Trustees:
Chad Breckinridge Nominated for a first term 2016-2019 Chad and his wife Joy have three daughters at Burgundy: Rose, 2nd grade Viceroys; Eliana, 4th grade Coopers; and Sophie, 4th grade Redtails. Chad and Joy have jointly been room parents three times, and Chad is currently one of the BPA's volunteer coordinators. Chad is a lawyer; he currently serves as Associate Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission. Prior to joining the FCC in 2013, Chad worked at two Washington law firms: Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP, and Shea & Gardner. Recently he founded Bagel Uprising LLC, a local bagel bakery. Chad also serves on the advisory council of the Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, a state park and education center on the Patuxent River in Maryland.
Dale Johnson Nominated for a second term 2016-2019 Dale has been the Head of School at The Field School for 12 years. Some of his accomplishments in this role include growing the school's enrollment from 280 to 370, nearly tripling the percentage of the annual operating budget devoted to financial aid, raising teacher salaries, and more than doubling the amount raised for the school's annual fund. Most recently, Dale led a successful $10 million capital campaign as part of a campus renovation and expansion project. He has 26 years of education experience, from teaching to coaching to administration. Dale currently serves as board treasurer/secretary for the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington. Dale is married and has two sons at The Field School.
Joanne Petty Nominated for a second term 2016-2019 Joanne and her husband Josh have three children at Burgundy, Jacob, 6th grade; Amelia, 4th grade Coopers; and Noah, 1st grade Sheep. They have been devoted and active Burgundy parents since 2010. She is currently the Vice President of the Burgundy board and also the chair of the Committee on Trustees and a member of the Executive and Campaign Committees. Prior to moving to Arlington, Joanne was a civil litigation attorney representing local governments and school boards in Chicago, and has since been actively volunteering with VA/DC-area philanthropies. She is currently the Vice President of the Board of Directors at Doorways for Women and Families, where she is also serving on the Governance and Facilities committees.

Auction 2016: Extending Deadline for Donations; Pick a Butterfly, Plan a Party We're digging out from the snow and looking for more donations! Many thanks to everyone who has already offered their generous support for this year's auction by soliciting and/or donating an item.
If you would like to solicit or donate an item ... keep them coming! Please note that we do not need to have the item you are donating at this time, we only need the donor form (PDF), which describes the donated item. In order to include a description of the item in our catalog, we need to receive the donor form by Wednesday, February 10. Any donations with forms submitted after that date will be included in an addendum -- although items listed in the addendum tend not to raise as much money for financial aid.
Looking for an idea of what to give? Consider donating a restaurant gift certificate in $100, $50 or $25 denominations. At the auction, each certificate will be sold as a "butterfly" in a "pick a butterfly" game where everyone wins. Often referred to as "balloon pops," it allows auction attendees to purchase a gift certificate--but the exact restaurant will be a surprise! Always popular among auction goers, the sale is a win/win for financial aid since each certificate is donated. Check out some of the possible "butterflies" (PDF) in this year's collection. Want to contribute funds for balloon pops rather than picking up yourself? Contact Auction Coordinator Allison Niedbala and she will make it happen.
Keep in mind that donations aren't always tangible items, either. At Burgundy, we love experiences! We again hope to offer a variety of events or parties (PDF) catering to various interests and age groups. Be creative! Think about coordinating something with friends. Pick a date, location, number of people possible, and a budget. We can work together to come up with the ideal price per person for attendees. Want to brainstorm or get feedback on an idea? Please contact Ann Grillo or Moley Evans, 2016 Auction Co-Chairs.
