Every week at Burgundy is busy and fun, but as we speed toward the end of the year, it seems these days are even more action-packed. All our students are once again enjoying swimming during PE. Our 8th graders are in the middle of performing their musical -- I'm looking forward to seeing Bye Bye Birdie and I hope you plan to as well! Next week the 4/5 classes present the Colonial History Living Museum, one of many high points during their Colonial unit of curriculum.
Spring trips to Cooper's Cove are underway as well. One of the most memorable Cove trips also happens to be the first. First graders each spring travel to the Cove for just one night, but their trip is a great culmination to their spring lessons, including the history of the Underground Railroad and their Cove animals studies. The Sheep class visited our Cove campus last week, and the Goats are wrapping up their visit today.
I hope, despite this season's sometimes frantic pace, you continue to enjoy the special experiences we at Burgundy are lucky enough to have every day!

Campus Renewal Construction Update
It's been an exciting week for Early Childhood students and teachers, as the expansive new deck behind their classrooms was opened! The new space provides an easier transition from indoor to outdoor learning, and complements the Dome, Amphitheater, and surrounding woods where the JK and Kindergarten students have been playing so far this year. For the time being, the treehouse remains closed as we make a few additional adjustments.
Additionally, most of the work on the gabion wall and most of the concrete pouring is complete. There are a few more spots that are access points for other aspects of the project, and these areas will have concrete poured after the work requiring heavy trucks and machines is finished. While the concrete stairs have all been poured, handrails still have to be installed.
In the next few weeks, there will be work to clear the blacktop, do fine grading and backfilling near the gabion walls, install playground equipment, spread two kinds of mulch, and start landscaping.
Thank You: Book Fair Thank you to all the families that supported the library by purchasing books at the book fair last week. It was an incredibly successful event! Thank you also to all our volunteers who worked tirelessly before, during, and after the week of sales. Enjoy your summer reading!
Community Service Report
On Sunday, May 10, a large number of Burgundy parents, students and families took time out of their day on Mother's Day to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors served by Senior Services of Alexandria. It was a special joy to deliver carnations, along with food, to the mothers on our routes, and to wish them a good Mother's Day. Many of the seniors are lonely and look forward to their daily visitor from Meals on Wheels, and several strongly expressed appreciation for our being there that day.

Missing Something? Looking for a lost raincoat? How about your child's missing lunch box or scarf? The Lost & Found (located outside the girl's bathroom in the Loft) has a plethora of clothes, jackets, water bottles, and more just waiting for their owners to pick them up. Before the school year ends, please visit the Lost & Found area to claim your missing items. Anything unclaimed will be donated to a local charity at year's end. |
