Thanksgiving is always one of my favorite holidays. It's an opportunity to reflect on our blessings, something many of us do not find time to do often enough!
I am personally and eternally grateful for Burgundy, for what it has given me and my family. Burgundy provided our daughter Tonasia, class of '07, inspiration and confidence to follow her passions and to become an excellent student in the process. It is a story I hear retold time and again by so many of our alumni, whom I love talking to and hearing about.
Although we are going through the admission process like everyone else, I am hopeful that our little one, Tatum, age 3, will be here with me next year and have ten years of what benefitted Tonasia so well.
I spoke with a mother very recently whose children attended Burgundy for a time but did not graduate. She nevertheless is an ardent fan of the school. I am periodically deeply impressed by the strong belief in Burgundy even from people who are more marginally connected or whose direct connection has elapsed; this belief reminds me of the powerful regard for and indeed the 'ownership' of Burgundy that lives in each current and past student, teacher, staff person and parent. The joy and excitement in school and in learning are present here in a way that I wish were true in schools everywhere.
Overall, as a school community it seems to me we have so much for which to be grateful! I hope during the next few days, you'll have plenty of opportunity to relax and connect with family and friends. I'm also hopeful that Burgundy may cross your mind, and that if it does, it brings about the same sense of joy and gratitude that it stirs within me.
