Greetings!

I hope you're doing well and enjoying the start of a healthy, happy 2013. As you may remember, these early months are busy at Burgundy. On January 18, we hosted our fourth annual Martin Luther King Day of Service on campus, through which our community honored Dr. King's legacy by completing roughly a dozen service projects to benefit local non-profit organizations. Our sixth-graders are currently preparing for Burgundy on Broadway, their first Middle School production. This year's theme is "Dreams and Magic," and it includes a wide-ranging repertoire, from classic rock to beloved ballads to songs from Harry Potter and Oklahoma! And, for the first time in Burgundy on Broadway history, the students have incorporated a clarinet performance into the storyline, thanks to their three years of training in our instrumental music program. You're welcome to join us for the performances on Thursday, February 21, and Friday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Loft.

We also hope those of you 21 and older will mark your calendars for March 9, and plan to join us for our 31st Annual Auction. This year's theme is A Walk in the Woods: The Burgundy Dream, which is designed to remind us of all the unique things that we love about Burgundy and to inspire community members to share that dream with others. As many of you know, the Auction is our primary fundraiser for financial aid, which supports one in five of our students. We would love for our alumnialumni parents, former faculty and staff members, and special friends to join in our annual celebration. Ways to support our Auction include attending (and enjoying the delicious food and fun atmosphere!), purchasing raffle tickets, and making a financial contribution either to cover some of the auction expenses or to support financial aid directly. You'll receive an email invitation to the auction in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you'd like to get involved, please email Michele McCabe (michelem@burgundyfarm.org).

As we head into spring, there will be more opportunities to return to campus. We'll be sending you more information about the Alumni Picnic and Alumni Speak, for instance. And we're always happy to see unexpected visitors! If you're ever in the area, please stop by and say "hello." We would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Jen

Following Up with Integriti Reeves '02 and Alexander Eichner '09

Integriti Reeves, who was featured in the latest issue of Voices for her success with the a capella group Afro Blue, was also featured on the cover of the most recent issue of Strathmore News (right) as one of their artists in residence. Earlier this month, she was nominated for a Wammie as jazz vocalist of the year. Congratulations, Integriti!

Alexander (Alec) Eichner '09, who was featured in our last issue of The Burgundy Blaze as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, was recently highlighted as an Alexandria City Public Schools "Scholar of the Week." You can click here to read more. Congratulations, Alec!

Alumna Nominated for Glamour Magazine Award
Congratulations to Ariana Meltzer-Bruhn '06, who was recently nominated to be included in Glamour magazine's "Top Ten College Women" round-up for her work in building an inclusive community. Ariana, a 4.0 student and captain of Villanova University's women's club soccer team, secured the support of The Canuso Foundation and founded LEVEL, a student organization that partners Villanova's disabled student with able-bodied ones. The aim of Ariana's organization is to provide help in and out of the classroom, grow new friendships, and change the way people view ability. You can read more about Ariana's accomplishments here
Annual Giving: $250,000 to Help Our Teachers and Our Children

The Burgundy community is united by its commitment to help each student realize his or her full potential as a student and as a person. The experiences that Burgundy students have are truly special. Running an independent school is expensive. With your help, cost won't get in our way of providing these unique opportunities to our students.

The richness of our programs, the excellence of our faculty, and the economic diversity of our student body are all enhanced by the voluntary financial support of our community.

Annual Giving serves as the most critical fundraising effort of the year as the funds raised support our operating budget. This year our Annual Giving goal is $250,000 and is focused in three areas: Program and Instruction, Financial Aid, and Professional Development.

Last year, we had the most number of alumni donors ever: 88! Can we push beyond the 100-mark this year? Our teachers and students are counting on you! If you would like to make a gift immediately, click here or call Director of Advancement Jen Pusatere (703.842.0466).

Many thanks to all of the alumni who have already made a gift to Annual Giving:
