LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

"Dog Days of Summer"
I believe the good old saying is referring to many of you as summer winds down and as we gear up for crisp evenings and symphonies of color as trees turn the spectacular shades of Autumn red, yellow and orange. Undoubtedly, for myself and the Board of Directors of ASID CT, this time of year has nothing to do with relaxing and slow paced. For us it is a very busy time, closing out my term as President, strategic planning for Hollie Sutherland's upcoming term 2016-2017, Leo Robitaille's membership programming and industry partner outreach and Eileen Bull's planning for our annual FALL CELEBRATION at the Fairfield County Hunt Club on September 14, 2016. Please sign up early as last year's event was a sell out and this year is looking to be the same.
As I approach the end of my term as President on October 1, 2016 I have incredible memories looking back at ASID CT 2015-2016 and the many accomplishments achieved along with the thrill members have expressed to me and others on the board regarding the trajectory of ASID CT and its future.
We have reshaped our story!
Sustainability of our new found relevance will be vital in the coming years, and ASID CT's goal, through our chapter's
current platform and Hollie Sutherland's strategic plan moving forward will offer up programs and activities that will engage, educate and enlighten our design members while supporting a win-win partnership with our highly valued industry partners and our tristate design community.
With your support and participation we will continue to grow our chapter and our profession!
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President.
With admiration and tremendous respect!
Craig J. Smith, RID, ASID, NCIDQ

Decorative painting by Sharon Leichsenring at
Creating inspired spaces in Paint and Plaster for Walls, Ceilings, Floors and Furniture
I am constantly exploring new materials for custom artisan finishes. Right now, the addition of mica, combined with mica-infused plaster shows contemporary influences. Here is mica standing alone on a shimmering metallic field, and combined with plaster as a fascinating solution for ceiling and walls
Traditional murals are still a favorite. Painted in sepia coupled with a subtle silver teal, this mural was created in the style of the grand panoramas of the late 19th century.
I would look forward to an opportunity to be a source for decorative painting for your special projects that need the perfect finish. You can view my work at www.LeichsenringStudios.com

Kathryn Chevalier
Student ASID
My name is Kathryn Chevalier and I am a junior interior design student at the University of Bridgeport. I am the Vice President of UB's ASID student chapter, as well as an honors program student with a 3.978 GPA, a teacher's assistant, and an intern at Stephanie Rapp Interiors [Weston, CT]. I became an interior design student after a (very early) mid-life crisis during my freshman year, which caused me to switch majors and transfer colleges. I decided to re-evaluate my entire life plan and when it came to deciding what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, it was clear interior design was the right choice for me. It was the only subject I had truly been passionate about my entire life and had never managed to grow tired of. Once I arrived at the University of Bridgeport and was immersed in the world of interior design, ASID instantly became vital to succeed. Everything from attending ASID CT student and professional events to reading all the ASID e-mails with messages from the board and helpful tips and tools from sponsors made me a better designer overall- it even got me my internship as a sophomore. Now, being Vice President of the student chapter, I am even more involved with ASID and it has done nothing but benefit me and my career as a designer by helping me make connections, learn about everything new in our field and teach me valuable life skills.
