Bring cookies to share, or just yourself, and rekindle YRUU friendships in fine and festive fellowship. Come kick off the holiday season in a delicious fashion; all former youth group participants who have graduated in the last five years are welcome and warmly encouraged to attend!

Humanist Fellowship - This Sunday & Next
The Humanist Fellowship will end the month with an examination of the international standing of the US as a legal entity. Is the claim made by some commentators, like Noam Chomsky, that the US is becoming or has become a rogue state, mere hyperbole? To answer that question, the group will examine the evidence of and rationalizations for International Treaties signed but violated, not signed despite ostensibly laudatory goals, isolation within the United Nations, targeted assassinations that were once shameful secrets but are now claimed as a right, and more. They will look at Guantanamo, drone strikes, torture, NSA surveillance of foreign leaders, and other recent novelties through the eyes of observers who have a reverence for international law. The Humanist Fellowship gathers Sundays from 11:15 am - 12:30 pm, and participants are encouraged to bring a donation for the food barrel.

Missing Chalice Lighters' Stoles
On Dec. 8, two of the stoles used during the chalice lighting portion of our worship services went missing. The stoles are one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted pieces and are costly to replace. If you inadvertently took them home or left them somewhere in the building, please return them to the Family Welcome Center in the front lobby.

Come join a conversation on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7 pm in Room 216 at UUCA, where we'll have a chance to vent and problem solve with others in similar situations. Third Thursday Cinema - Jan 16
Sponsored by UUCA's Peace Network, the Third Thursday Cinema happens Jan. 16 at 7 pm in Room 210. This month's film is Dirty Wars. The so-called War on Terror has fundamentally changed the way the US does war. The traditional rules of engagement no longer apply, and drone strikes, night raids and targeted killings occur across the globe. Those responsible for these acts operate in secret and will never appear before Congress. The film has been shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature for a 2014 Oscar. It is based on Jeremy Scahill's book Dirty Wars: the World is a Battlefield. Scahill traces the rise of the Joint Special Operations Command, for whom no target is off-limits, including American citizens. A $3 donation is suggested for the evening, which includes refreshments and a moderated discussion.

Spotlight Sunday - Jan 19
Spotlight Sunday returns on Jan. 19, when UUCA shines a light on our many Covenant Groups, which offer a safe place to explore spiritual growth and develop deep and meaningful relationships. To encourage full participation and allow participants to really go deep in conversation, groups are just six to ten members. Topics are varied and interesting -- spiritual practice, forgiveness, trust, death, humanism, generosity, relationship challenges, aging, appreciation, and much more. A major principle of the Covenant Group program is to welcome newcomers from the moment they join the congregation by providing a place of spiritual nourishment and belonging. Read more at uuca.org/covenant-groups, email Linda Serra at lindalserra@gmail.com to discuss, and come visit the tables in the Social Hall on Jan. 19!

Our Caring Community
For pastoral care concerns, contact Rev. Jane Thickstun at jthickstun@uuca.org or by phone at 404-634-5134 xt. 215.
We're surrounding longtime member Bill Watson and his family with love. Bill was recently admitted to Hospice Atlanta, after having been admitted to Dekalb Medical Center last Saturday with an acute infection and high fever. His daughter Karen Rowles says, "He is resting comfortably now and I am pleased with the care he received at the hospital and now here in hospice. I pray that he will find peace soon."
Please pray for the family of Brenda Dixon, who was a co-worker of UUCA member Justin Dyer. Brenda lost her battle with breast cancer on Dec. 4. She leaves behind a husband and twin daughters who are only 20 months old.
We grieve with Lucia Pulgram and her family. Lucia's twin sister, Margaret Kennedy, died in her home in Ithaca, NY, on Dec. 7. Lucia and Bill welcome condolence cards, emails and phone calls.
We're also grieving with Sue Trowbridge. Her mother, Nancy Trowbridge, died peacefully on Dec. 13. Sue would appreciate loving thoughts for her and her family at this time.
We're surrounding the family of longtime UUCA member Jane Hinds with love. Jane passed away Dec. 13. Memorial service arrangements are pending.
We are mindful that many people in our spiritual community have recently lost loved ones and are experiencing grief and loss during this holiday season. We surround them with our compassion, light, and healing energy.
Who are you missing? Concerned about a UUCA member that you have missed seeing at Sunday Services or Wonderful Wednesday? We have several lay ministers who would be happy to contact these missing congregants to see if we can be of assistance or offer support when it is needed. Please send your requests to Lay Minister Ginny Sjoquist at sjoquist@bellsouth.net or 404-876-0455. Alternatively, contact Rev. Jane Thickstun at the UUCA office or Lay Minister Charlene Hurt via email at uucachar.hurt7@gmail.com.
