Love thy Neighbor Food Sharing - Sunday
On Sunday, many UUCA members will bring food to donate. They will have shopped for 100 food insecure families in the Old Fourth Ward community. They'll pack the food in boxes and drive the boxes downtown. Families will pick the food up from our partner, Operation PEACE. What a joy! But, Promise the Children advocates always keep in mind:  This project is not an end; it must be a beginning.  Next month, the families will be hungry again.  So what's next?  It's pretty exciting! On Dec. 5, UUCA will help City Councilman Kwanza Hall host a "Community Conversation about Food Insecurity in the Old Fourth Ward" from 10 am - 12 pm at Fort Street Memorial United Methodist Church, 562 Boulevard NE, Atlanta 30308.  This is expected to be the first of several conversations aimed at identifying the gaps between all our good intentions and people who still lack adequate food.  If food insecurity is an issue you care about, let Promise the Children hear from you at PromiseTheChildren@uuca.org and read more on the Promise the Children blog site.

Guest at Your Table Begins - Sunday

The annual Guest at Your Table (GAYT) program sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) will begin Nov. 24 with volunteers dispensing donation envelopes and informational brochures at each entrance to the Sanctuary before both services.  Please plan to participate in this tradition of  helping nurture a spirit of gratitude and the UU values of justice, equity and compassion in human relations.

Humanist Fellowship: Justice Denied  - Sunday

Today concludes a month-long look at the US justice system.  The fellowship will address the charge made by many that the decisions handed down by courts at all levels have more to do with ideology, corporate funding of elections, overcrowded prisons, various forms of discrimination, and other extraneous factors than with a concern for justice. If the Constitution guarantees every arrestee the right to a jury trial, why are less than 3% of all trials resolved in that way? Of the three branches of government, Supreme Court Justices serve the longest terms and are furthest removed from the electorate. Why are they not rigorously required to distance themselves from blatant conflicts of interest? Join the conversation! The Humanist Fellowship gathers Sundays from 11:15 am - 12:30 pm, and participants are encouraged to bring a donation for the food barrel.

Last Day To Buy November Art & Submit Art for December Show - Sunday

This Sunday, Nov. 24, is the last day to purchase the fine craft items on display in the UUCA gallery.  Take another look at all the clever ceramics by Karen Fincannon, carved birds on branches by Richard DeWalt, colorful acrylic paintings by Wade Lincoln and wonderful cast paper designs by Kevin Dyer.  What unique gifts they would make for this holiday season!

The annual UUCA members Art Exhibit will be in the UUCA Gallery during the month of December.  Members are encouraged to create artworks in acrylic, oil, watercolor, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fabric, pen and ink, charcoal, and more.  Each member may submit three pieces for this exhibit.  All two-dimensional works must be in sturdy frames.  No saw tooth hangers will be allowed.  All works must have name, title, medium and price on the back.  Artworks must be in the volunteer room by Nov. 24.  Volunteers to help hang the show on Nov. 25, are also needed. Rev. Peter Morales, UUA President, Comes to UUCA - Dec 8

Join us as we welcome to the pulpit Unitarian Universalist Association President Rev. Peter Morales with his sermon, "Love Reaches Out." UU's have a proud history of public witness. Our bright yellow "Standing on the Side of Love" t-shirts are found at demonstrations for social justice. But love doesn't just take a stand. Love reaches out. Can we learn to be as passionate and effective at reaching out as we are about standing for justice?

UUCA is thrilled and honored to have Rev. Morales with us. All members and friends are invited to attend a special reception for Rev. Morales at UUCA immediately following the second service on Dec. 8.

Rev. Morales, the first Latino president of the UUA, was elected on a platform of growth and multiculturalism. Public witness is central to his presidency; he is especially passionate about immigration reform and environmental justice.   To learn more about Rev. Morales, read his biography here.

In addition, DFW founder Marsha Wallace will be in attendance to update attendees on the current and future state of the organization. UUCA chapters will present a check to Mrs. Wallace representing a Give Away the Plate donation and funds raised at 2013 Wonderful Wednesday dinners. All UUCA women are invited to attend and participate in this important work for social and economic justice, human rights, and sustainable environments in the developing world. Contact Mary Crawley or Emilu Bailes for information.
