Mayor Cronin Receives
Tourism Award for Leadership
Mayor Award
On June 11, 2013, Isle of Palms Mayor Dick Cronin received the Barrett Lawrimore Tourism Award for Leadership presented annually by the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Acknowledging the work of long-time, late County Council Chair Barrett Lawrimore, the award is given to an elected official leading the region in tourism initiatives. Mayor Cronin was selected for his work with the South Carolina Department of Revenue on the reconciliation and reporting of Accommodations Tax. Pictured left to right are last year's winner Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell, CVB Chair and Managing Director of Wild Dunes Frank Fredericks, Mayor Dick Cronin, and Marilyn Lawrimore, wife of Barrett Lawrimore.
Intersection Improvement at Rifle Range and the IOP Connector

 Beach1
Charleston County has approved funding for a project to construct additional thru lanes in both directions on the IOP Connector in the Town of Mount Pleasant beginning at Highway 17 and ending at Riveria Drive. The portion of the bridge that crosses the marsh will remain unchanged. Concept plans are available for viewing. The goal is to alleviate traffic congestion and back-ups, particularly during the daily exodus by beach visitors from the island.

Help Pass the Word: No Full Service Grocery Store on the Island

Help visitors have the best experience possible by letting them know that, temporarily, the island does not have a full service grocery store.  Limited groceries are available at the Isle of Palms Marina Store, Simmons Seafood, the Kangaroo Gas Station, and Hudson's Market in Wild Dunes.  However, a family staying for several days may want more provisions.  Shopping before they arrive on the island, perhaps in Mount Pleasant, will prevent frustration at having to leave the island after arrival and will ease beach traffic.
