New Grocery Store Announced for Island:

issued a press release announcing that Newton Farms will open a grocery store in the Island Center when rennovations are complete, anticipated by summer of 2014.

The new single-stream recycling program, now island-wide, has been a success.  Please remember to roll your "big blue" bins away from the street as soon as possible following service.  Thank you! 
  
Construction to Begin on SCE&G Line Under Marsh
 
To increase reliability of
service in inclement weather or times of high demand, SCE&G is construction a second service line which will burrow under Hamlin Creek. Folks may see temporary construction equipment.
  
 City Purchases Live Oak Park with Greenbelt Grant Funds

In December, the City executed the purchase of 1801 Palm Boulevard, which provides a vegetative buffer between the Island Center Shopping Center and adjacent residential areas.  Charleston County Greenbelt Grant funds reimbursed the City for the full purchase price of $474,385.  The land is valued at $1,350,000 and is now protected as "green space" by the purchase. Live Oak Park represents one of the few interior sections of the island to remain undeveloped.
Doggie Day at the Rec: February 23

Woof! Woof! The island's four-legged residents are invited to bring their families to the Rec for Doggie Day.  Activities begin at 9:00 a.m. and include rabies vaccinations ($10), IOP dog licenses ($5), pet photos, and available local rescues for adoption. The dog show starts at 10:00 a.m.  Register to compete for Best in Show in one of the following categories: Cutest Puppy, Best Eyes, Best Smile, Best Dressed, Most Attractive, Mystery Mutt (small), Mystery Mutt (large), Best Female Rescue, Best Male Rescue, Most Unusual Breed, Most Creative Name and Most Ear Resistible Ears. City Offices Closed on Monday,
January 21 - No Trash Collection

City Administrative Offices, including City Hall, the Building and Zoning Department, Recreation, Public Works, and Police and Fire Administration, will be closed on Monday, January 21. Emergency services are always available by calling 911. No trash collection or yard debris collection will occur on January 21. View the holiday trash collection schedule.  Holiday trees will be recycled if placed curbside for collection.
