In my experience of meeting and dealing with people most have no idea as to when they are operating out of a place of fear and when from a place of love, partly because I believe society has conditioned us all to be fearful without realising it. Indeed much of our culture today just reiterates this to us and we continue to soak it up until that is we become more aware.
Not that this is anyone's fault as such it is more a legacy of society gone by and how others have behaved before us, we have just taken it as a given and followed suit. If you take Dr Clare Graves model of Spiral Dynamics for instance which is one way of mapping our cultural past, you can start to understand how we have moved from a hunter gatherer mode (beige), into a more mystical tribal way of living (purple), before empires started to be built from early agriculture (red), then the monotheistic religions were born (blue), and in turn followed a more self-centred capitalist way of living (orange), before people started to protest about this realising what effect it was having on the planet (green). All of these memes however can be argued have existed within a consciousness of fear, be that beige, purple, red, blue, orange or green.
Easy isn't it distilling 200,000 years down into just a few sentences and 6 random colours, that is until you realise that two more colours are now evolving almost simultaneously where people are looking at all of these prior ways of existing and trying to pick the best bits, planning and creating a more loving solution to our human existence, yellow plans and turquoise creates to reach the same goal.
In our fearful lives we live negatively, we blame others for our existence, we try and protect what we accumulate, we compete for all we can get and live fairly isolated and separate lives. We are predominantly selfish individuals, we close off our hearts and are at war with ourselves, others and the planet, we live a controlled existence addicted to the growth model of an industrial society that has no real future built as it is on fossil fuels, oil, coal and gas.
When we move to a more loving state we become more positive, we take responsibility for our lives, enjoy more freedom sharing our gifts more collaboratively with others. We start to appreciate the value of unity and oneness, coming together to form community, becoming more altruistic in our approach to life. Our hearts open and we start to find peace within. We live far more creatively, can appreciate why we need to live in a more sustainable way placing nature back in the centre of our culture and begin to realise the real value of all the flora and fauna around us and our connection.
The shift starts to occur when we realise we have a choice in how we wish to live, by bringing compassion to ourselves and our situation, being honest and authentic with regards to who we truly are and what we value, we then begin to see our own truth within all what is going on around us, a truth that sets us free.
