The Brescian model is like the big sister to the Mittenwald, so this weeks "Holbrook" Brescian seemed like a great follow-up to the "Wortsmith" as these two basses share the same DNA. They are designed around a similar core set of numbers, with one following the simple lines of the gamba, and the other with elegant violin corners. These are powerful and versatile basses, and the "Holbrook" is no different. In fact, it even features the same wood choice used on the "Wortsmith." Read on for more about the "Holbrook."

Give Gary or myself a call and lets talk about building a Brescian for you. We love what we do, and we'd love to do it for you!

The Award-Winning UB Brescian Model
UptonBass.com

The award-winning Brescian Model Bass is a modern instrument with roots in the 16th century inspired by our favorite historic double basses.
And its design directly mirrors those archetypal double basses with large shoulders, violin corners, deep ribs, dramatic top arching and pronounced canted backs. These qualities combine to create a larger air mass with great resonance and rich harmonics, packaged with the ergonomics, geometry, and accessibility that modern players expect from Upton Bass. The "Holbrook" Brescian
UptonBass.com

The "Brescian School" refers to a tradition of contrabass building established in the northern Italian city of Brescia in the 1500s. The instruments of this style are dramatically characterized by their generous proportions and powerful projection.
As with the "Wortsmith" last week, the "Holbrook" is a commissioned piece. It has a 5 string upgrade and a fully carved round back. It features a German spruce top with a highly figured European maple back, neck, and sides. We've been drooling over the "Holbrook" in our shop for weeks, now it's your turn!

Eric Revis Plays His UB Travel Brescian
UptonBass.com

Like all Upton Basses, The Brescian is a versatile instrument. It can be set up as a jazz cannon pushing the rhythm section with tremendous string response. When bowed for classical music, deep and clearly pitched pipe-organ lows will lift the string section. Roots and bluegrass players will feel increased depth, string feel and boom in every note.
We caught this video of Eric Revis playing his UB Travel Brescian a while back, and we feel that the proof is in the pudding. But don't just take our word for it, watch the video to experience the Brescian's versatility for yourself. More at uptonbass.com...

First Place for Tone, Copenhagen 2012
UptonBass.com

On the 17th of August, 2012, we entered a solid wood flat-back Brescian model Upton Double Bass into the European Society of Bassists Bass Makers Competition, held at their bi-annual convention in Copenhagen. This bass won first place for tone from the playing jury! The following day, there was a performance using some of the award winning basses. Gary shot a few minutes with his iPhone, enjoy!  More at uptonbass.com...
