A lot has happened since our last newsletter! We announced we are going to Nicaragua for our 2015 CLE Memorial Weekend Trip. We honored the accomplished Maria Hernandez at our Annual Judges BBQ, click here for pictures if you missed it!

We also opened nominations for elections to the 2015 Board of Directors. Come meet the candidates at our Dia De Los Muertos/Day of the Dead Mixer. Please be sure to vote! If you are not a member, you cannot vote - so become a member now!

HBA Proudly Endorses Its Immediate Past President Mayte Santacruz For OCBA Board of Director
 
HBA's immediate past president Mayte Santacruz is running for one of the four open seats on the OCBA Board Election.  The HBA is proud to endorse her candidacy for the upcoming OCBA election.  The OCBA online election opened on October 1, 2014 and will close on October 21, 2014 at 2:20pm.  Please consider voting for Mayte and help us spread the word!  Click here to learn more information about Mayte Santacruz.  To vote on the election, click on the following link: www.ocba.org/vote.  For questions about the election, please contact the OCBA at (949) 440-6700 ext. 121.

The HBA Endorses Solange Ritchie for OCBA Secretary

Solange has provided 16 years of dedicated service to the OCBA and has served on OCBA Board of Directors since 2005. She has served as President of OCAABA, OCWLA, and an Inns of Court and continues to actively support and/or have board involvement in the following affiliate bars: HBA, OCWLA, OCAABA, OCTLA, OC Celtic Bar and CWL. Solange also received this year's Meyer J. Sankary Award which is the California State Bar's Solo and Small Firm Section's highest award for dedicated service to the bar. She also has received the endorsement of the OC Asian American Bar Assn., the OC Celtic Bar Assn., the OC Hispanic Bar Association, the OC Korean American Bar Association, the OC Bar Foundation and Newport Harbor Bar Association. The Constitutional Rights Foundation Orange County ("CRF-OC") is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to providing civics education programs for Orange County youth, including our annual mock trial competition.  More than 30 high schools typically compete, involving more than 1,000 students.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Orange County
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Orange County is a non-profit that trains and supervises community volunteers to mentor and advocate for children in the foster care system. Over 50% of the children that CASA is currently servicing identify as Hispanic/Latino, but less than 10% of our volunteer base identify as Hispanic/Latino. CASA and the CASA Hispanic Advisory Council is looking for more Hispanic/Latino volunteers to donate 10-15 hours a month to help one of the over 160 children on our wait list who are in the foster care system. Professional Woman Volunteers Sought for Mary's Shelter in Tustin, CA
Mary's Shelter is a home for pregnant moms and moms who have children. The moms are all under the age of 18. Duties could include anything from caring for babies to mentoring teen moms.
