The HBA and Legal Community At Large is Saddened by the Passing of Raymond G. Alvarado
Ray was one of the founders of AlvaradoSmith and a long-standing, respected member of the legal community in Southern California. Ray began practicing law in 1972 when he opened his first law firm that for many years was known as Alvarado, Rus & McClellan. In 1993, Ray realized his dream of establishing a minority owned law firm when he, along with Ruben Smith and two other partners, formed the firm now known as AlvaradoSmith, which remains the largest diversely-owned law firm based in California. Throughout his years with AlvaradoSmith, Ray was passionately committed to the advancement of diverse firms in the legal community, as reflected by his extensive involvement with the California Minority Counsel Program. In addition to his commitment to his profession, Ray gave tirelessly of himself to educational, civic, and youth organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club, youth sports, and high school moot court competitions. Apart from his professional success, Ray was a well-recognized, contemporary artist whose paintings can be found throughout Orange County, including in the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Santa Ana. Ray and his firm, AlvaradoSmith is a longtime supporter of the HBA. In recognition of his contributions to the community and, in particular, his commitment to higher education for our youth, AlvaradoSmith established the Raymond G. Alvarado Scholarship Fund. |
