President's Message
By: Mayte Santacruz, 2013 HBA President
Spring has arrived, and we are very excited about the many events the HBA is sponsoring and participating in the next coming weeks. On April 13th, the HBA and PLC will be sponsoring a Naturalization Clinic at the North Orange County Community College District in Anaheim. We invite all of our members, including law students, to volunteer at this great event. We also invite our members to attend our Cinco de Mayo de Barranda on Thursday, May 2nd, and join the HBA's and PLC's "Public Law Center's Legal Eagles" team at the Orange County AIDS walk on Saturday, May 4th. In addition to planning and attending these events, our Board will be busy supporting other organizations and causes in and out of Orange County. On April 13th, the Board will attend the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual Estrella Awards Fundraiser at the Disneyland Hotel, and on May 4th, our softball team will participate in the Mexican American Bar Association 5th Annual Softball Tournament at Whittier Narrows Park in South El Monte.
Last but not least, some of the Board members will join the 65 HBA members and friends who are attending this year's sold out CLE Trip to Costa Rica on May 23-27. We hope you will join us at some of these events! |

Snell & Wilmer Pre-Law Program & FAR
In 2009, Snell & Wilmer established the "Snell & Wilmer Pre-Law Program" to serve self-identified diverse undergraduate students. The hallmark of the Program was the LSAT Scholarship, which provided selected candidates with a monetary stipend covering the costs of taking and preparing for the law school admission test. Since its introduction, the firm has awarded more than a dozen LSAT Scholarships to aspiring lawyers of diverse backgrounds across the country. Understanding the subtle complexities of the challenges faced by diverse candidates, Snell & Wilmer recently expanded the Pre-Law Program and LSAT Scholarship to the Fellowship for Advancement and Resources ("FAR"). FAR provides selected fellows with all of the resources provided under the LSAT Scholarship, plus (1) an audio course to prepare the student for law school; (2) a monetary stipend; (3) reimbursement for books; and (4) a Snell & Wilmer attorney to mentor the fellow. We are looking forward to naming our first FAR Fellows later this summer. The deadline for applications is July 1, 2013. For the application and more information about FAR, please visit: http://www.swlaw.com/the-firm/diversity/go-far
