Jose GonzalezPresident's Message

All good things must come to an end ...

I am having a tough time with the realization that my presidency of the HBA will come to the end this month.  In fact, at the last board meeting, I was tempted to finagle a motion to have the board appoint me "president for life," but I remembered what happened to Julius Caesar and abandoned my sinister plot.  In all seriousness, I will forever keep fond memories of my time as President of the HBA and always be indebted to its officers and directors for their unwavering support throughout this year.

I will leave my Presidency knowing that the HBA is in great hands with our incoming President Mayte Santacruz.  This year, she received recognitions from the Public Law Center and State Bar, and she was even recognized by OC Metro as one of the "Hottest 25" in Orange County.  Her hard work and dedication to helping pro-bono clients, primarily victims of domestic violence and other crimes, has earned Mayte the highest respect among both her peers and the HBA.  She is already off to a great start finalizing plans for the Installation Dinner on March 2, 2013 and the Memorial Day MCLE Trip to Costa Rica, selling out six months ahead of schedule.

This Thursday, December 6th, we will unveil the results of our recent election and have an opportunity to meet the 2013 elected Officers and Directors at the Annual Meeting and Holiday Party at the Green Parrot Villa in Santa Ana.  Please join us to enjoy the holiday season with wonderful "Noche Mexicana" food favorites and Latin jazz music to warm our hearts.

The HBA enjoyed another successful year, having grown the Wally Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund to record levels.  We moved forward with our Mentoring Program and expanded it to include over 40 law school students, representing all Orange County law schools, including Western State College of Law, Whittier Law School, UCI School of Law, Chapman University School of Law, and my own alma mater, Trinity Law School.

I am forever thankful to the HBA for giving me the opportunity to head an organization such as this, one of the most respected minority bar associations in Southern California.  The friendships forged throughout my time with the HBA have been marvelous.  I will forever be indebted to this organization for the priceless memories that I will take with me.

Muchisimas Gracias,

Jose Gonzalez, President
