Airport News
 January 2016
Greetings!

Marily Mora, President/CEO
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport reached new heights in 2015 with several new flights and the highest customer service scores in history.

Five new flights were announced or began service in 2015, including JetBlue Airways to New York City's John F. Kennedy Airport; three daily non-stop international flights on Volaris Airlines between Guadalajara, Mexico and Reno-Tahoe; Orange County and Boise daily non-stop flights on Alaska Airlines, and the proud return of Oakland service, with not one, but three daily flights offered on Southwest Airlines.

With positive passenger growth in 2015 and record-breaking numbers in air cargo, Reno-Tahoe International Airport is giving lift the Reno-Tahoe region. And with support from the community to fill the airline seats that the airport offers, we believe that 2016 will be a year when Reno-Tahoe International continues to soar!

Sincerely,

Marily M. Mora, A.A.E.
President and CEO

Oakland is Back!
Non-stop daily service begins June 5, 2016 on Southwest Airlines

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) proudly announces daily non-stop service to Oakland, CA on Southwest Airlines beginning June 5, 2016. Southwest will offer three flights per day between Reno-Tahoe and the Bay Area.

"Southwest is bringing back Oakland," said Marily Mora, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport. "The community asked for the return of the Oakland flight and we are happy to announce that the non-stop flight to the Bay is back, thanks to Southwest."

Southwest flew the Oakland-Reno route until June of 2013. Getting the non-stop Oakland service back has been a top priority for the airport ever since. The business and the tourism community came together to make the flight possible.

"Non-stop Oakland service will give both business and leisure travelers another option for travel between Reno and the Bay Area," said Mora. "But now it is truly a case of 'use it or lose it' and it is up to the community to fill the seats."

Southwest Airlines will fly the route between Reno-Tahoe International and Oakland International Airport, with a 143-seat Boeing 737-700 aircraft. Flight times are as follows:

2015 Was a Record-Setting Year in Passenger and Cargo Numbers

For the first time since 2005, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) saw year-over-year growth in passenger numbers. RNO served 3,432,657 passengers in 2015, representing an increase of 3.9% when compared to the year 2014. This is tremendous news, not only for the airport, but for the entire Reno-Tahoe region!

The rise in passenger counts can be attributed to the hard work of the Airport Board of Trustees and staff to bring new air service, with added flights and airlines in 2015. In addition, the growing regional economy and enhanced relationships with our partners in tourism, business, ski and more, coming together to attract travelers to the region.

The month of December 2015 was also up in passenger counts and significantly higher than December 2014. Reno-Tahoe International Airport served 286,432 passengers in December 2015, which is up 8.6% versus December 2014. In fact, the airport has experienced positive passenger growth for the past seven consecutive months.

And air cargo is experiencing record lift. The year 2015 was the best year recorded at RNO in terms of air cargo. During the year 2015, RNO handled 138,276,979 pounds of air cargo, an increase of 7.1% when compared to the year 2014.

In December 2015, R
NO handled 17,907,699 pounds of cargo, an increase of 13.5% when compared to December 2014.  December 2015 was the tenth consecutive month of air cargo growth at RNO, indicating continued strength in the economy as well as the growing business diversification in Northern Nevada. The presence of major warehousing, pharmaceutical, e-commerce and distribution facilities in the region play a key role in cargo growth at RNO. In addition, growth in industrial development areas such as the Tahoe/Reno Industrial Center has continued to help spur cargo growth and economic diversity.

"Thanks to support from the community, the airlines at RNO are performing well and cargo is seeing the highest numbers on record" said Marily Mora, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. "We are looking forward to continuing high passenger and cargo counts throughout the ski season."

"Alaska Airlines has certainly demonstrated their commitment to the community,"  said Marily Mora, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

"The Orange County announcement made last November, was on the heels of Alaska starting non-stop service to Boise, also in November."

Orange County will give both business and leisure travelers another option for travel between Reno and the Los Angeles basin.
"Now it is up to the community to support the flight and fill the seats, to ensure the success of the Orange County flight," said Mora.

Rideshare is at RNO...New Ground Transportation Options

The Nevada State Legislature recently approved Transportation Network Companies, like Uber and Lyft, to operate in Nevada and now the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is proud to announce that rideshare operator, Uber, can pick-up and drop-off customers at the airport, enhancing the overall travel experience.

Rideshare service began Wednesday, January 20th, in ground transportation, just north of Baggage Claim. Currently, Uber is the only rideshare company permitted to pick-up at RNO. But Lyft is also in the process of becoming an authorized rideshare provider at the airport.
University of Nevada mascots Alphie & Wolfie escorted Airport CEO Mora during the first pick-up from RNO.

The process is easy. Riders may log on to the rideshare app and identify the Reno-Tahoe International Airport as their pick-up location. Customers should then wait for their driver in the shelter provided outside Baggage Claim, just north of where hotel shuttles and taxis pick up. Look for directional signage to guide you.

"We welcome Uber and future rideshare companies, and are happy that the necessary procedures to safely operate were worked out, because at the airport, safety and security is always our number one priority," said Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority President/CEO Marily Mora.
