The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board has a new look since three new board members and a new Chairman took their seats this past July.

Andy Wirth, appointed by the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitor's Authority (RSCVA), was named Chairman of the nine member board and Lisa Gianoli, Jenifer Rose, and Jessica Sferrazza were sworn in as new members.

Andy Wirth, the CEO of Squaw Valley Holdings, was appointed by the RSCVA Board in 2013. He has extensive experience in international resort management and has worked with various airlines to develop more flights for resorts in Utah, Colorado and Canada.

"I am honored to represent the RSCVA and to serve as Chairman of an entity that is vital to our regional economy," said Andy Wirth. Airport Salutes Honor Flight Veterans

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is proud to partner with Southwest Airlines to send-off and welcome home more than 100 veterans this fall from World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War.

Honor Flight is a nationwide program that transports America's military heros to Washington D.C. to visit the war memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifices.
Joining with hundreds of military supporters from the local community, RNO greets these servicemen and women with handshakes, hugs, flags, music, therapy dogs, and a military salute in tribute to their service.

Most recently, Governor Brian Sandoval thanked the veterans in person and sent them off with gratitude on the Oct. 14th flight to Washington D.C. (photo above).

Please join the Reno Tahoe International Airport, Civil Air Patrol, Nevada Guard, Blue Star Moms, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and more, for the final Honor Flight of 2015, on November 5th at 1:00 p.m. here in the airport terminal. This will be a special arrival of the Vietnam Project, welcoming home servicemen and women on a Vietnam-only veteran flight.

Let's show appreciation for the veterans' sacrifice and service to our nation.

World War II veteran Bob Williams returns home from Washington D.C. on the October 2nd trip.

Non-Stop Boise on Alaska Airlines Starts Nov. 5th

Reno-Tahoe International Airport is proud to bring back non-stop air service to Boise on November 5, 2015, on Alaska Airlines.

Boise was previously served by Southwest Airlines but was discontinued in January 2012. For three years, the staff at Reno-Tahoe has worked diligently to bring the popular service back.

"Boise is a great addition to our growing list of non-stops and it will also provide convenient connecting service to Spokane, Washington," Marily Mora, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport said.

Horizon Air will fly the route with a 76-seat Bombardier Q-400 aircraft. It will depart Reno at 4:35 p.m. and arrive in Boise at 6:55 p.m. It will depart Boise at 6:15 p.m. and arrive in Reno at 6:44 p.m.

"Now that we have landed this service again for our community, it is very important for our region to support the flight and fill the seats."

Non-stop service to New York City through John F. Kennedy Airport began on May 28th, on JetBlue. And Volaris put the "international" back in to Reno-Tahoe International last December, with non-stop service to Guadalajara, Mexico; now offering three weekday flights.

Coming Soon...New Ground Transportation Options

The Nevada State Legislature recently approved Transportation Network Companies, like Uber and Lyft, to operate in Nevada.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is working with Uber and Lyft to provide additional transportation options for airport customers and enhance the overall travel experience.

But before airport passengers get "uber" excited and call one of the companies for a "lyft," please note that these drivers must first meet RNO safety and security regulations for operating in the airport environment.  An airport permit is required in order to pick up passengers at RNO, which helps ensure consistency with other ground transportation providers.

"We welcome Uber and Lyft, but there are a few procedures drivers and customers need to follow in order to operate at an airport, where safety and security are always the number one priority," said Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority President/CEO Marily Mora.

As operational details are worked out with the Transportation Network Companies, the process for customers to arrange rides will be publicized on the airport website and through social media. Signage will help guide customers to the pick-up area.

Uber or Lyft drivers wishing to operate at the airport must contact the Parking Office at Reno-Tahoe International, prior to the first passenger pick-up.
American Airlines Merges With U.S. Airways

American Airlines and U.S. Airways officially became one on Saturday, October 17th. Although the merger occurred nearly two years ago, their airline reservations systems have now integrated and all U.S. Airways flights are American flights.

What can you expect as a passenger? Here at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), U.S. Airways and American Airlines will continue to operate from their respective Ticket Counters for the next few weeks. But by the December holiday season, RNO departing travelers can expect to check-in at the area where U.S. Airways is currently located in Ticketing, under the American name. Passengers will depart and arrive out of Gates C7, C10 and C12.

For a stress-free airport experience, be sure to travel with your American passenger record locator number,  AAdvantage number or the credit card used to book the reservation; as flight information may not be retrievable by only the passenger name.

American Airlines currently offers 12 daily departures from RNO to the following cities: Phoenix, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago. For more details on the merger or for flight information, please contact American at www.aa.com or at 1-800-433-7300.
