Just in time for the holidays, our community received a $20 million gift this year from a new airline partner south of the border.

Volaris Airlines of Mexico has begun non-stop, twice weekly service between Guadalajara and Reno-Tahoe International Airport.   The new flights are expected to generate $20 million in economic impact for our region each year. And next holiday season, RNO is bringing another international gift to our region on Dec. 19 when Thomas Cook Airlines begins twice weekly service between Reno and London.   On the general aviation side of the airport, the Reno-Tahoe Aviation Group gave lift to holiday dreams for the Children's Cabinet with Operation Santa Claus (See story below).

The holiday season is a great time to bring these gifts to our community. But it is also important to recognize that at Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airport, there is a family of 2,500 hard-working people who strive all year long, 24/7, to provide outstanding service to our 3 million customers. They represent the airlines, TSA, FAA, car rental agencies, stores, restaurants, aviation businesses and the Airport Authority. On behalf of the entire airport family, we wish you the happiest of holidays.

We hope to see you soon at the airport.

Sincerely,

Marily M. Mora, A.A.E.

Operation Santa Claus Benefited Local Children's Cabinet Families

The holiday spirit took-off at Reno-Tahoe International Airport on Dec. 13th, as Santa Claus and a squadron of 25 airplanes loaded with gifts, landed at Atlantic Aviation for the benefit of the Children's Cabinet.

Operation Santa Claus is an event created by the Reno-Tahoe Aviation Group, an association of general aviation pilots in the region to lift the holiday spirits of families in need. Pilots and local businesses bought gifts for the Children's Cabinet families who were greeted by pilots and Santa Claus when they landed. The parade of aircraft and Santa, who arrived on a C-130, was an impressive sight at the airport.

Santa's elf arrived by a Whisper Jet Helicopter to bring in the last bag of gifts for the children.

The Atlantic Aviation hangar on Rock Boulevard was decorated as a winter wonderland. Media, Children's Cabinet families and volunteers gathered on the Atlantic ramp to cheer and greet Santa and his elves as they arrived in an array of aircraft including single engine and twin engine private planes, a National Guard C-130 and a helicopter.

More than 20 families were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus, given gifts under a Christmas tree, and enjoyed lunch and music to add holiday spirit.

The McQueen High School Choir performed as the families were presented with their gifts by Santa and Mrs. Claus. Numerous local businesses helped support Operation Santa Claus through sponsorships and gift buying for the families. Sponsors include Dolan Auto Group, Marshall Real Estate, Accellence Medical, McDonald, Carano and Wilson, Fennimore Craig Jones Vargas, and Robertson, Johnson, Miller & Williamson.

Enjoy the Sights and Sounds of the Season at the Airport

This holiday season, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport will fill the halls of the terminal with choirs, orchestras, bands and even dancers, to bring the holiday spirit to travelers as they come and go from the region.

In addition, the airport has the Paws4Passengers Therapy Dogs scheduled to work during the peak travel days, as our four-legged friends help reduce the stress level during a busy travel season.

If you're traveling this winter, remember to visit www.renoairport.com or www.tsa.gov for the latest travel tips. And ticketed passengers, sign up with your airline to receive automated notifications regarding possible flight delays or cancellations.

This holiday season, even Santa will enjoy smooth travels by planning ahead, arriving early, and checking with the airline on flight status before leaving the North Pole.

Volaris Brings First-Ever Non-stop Service between Reno and Guadalajara

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is proud to announce new non-stop service between Reno and Guadalajara, Mexico.

This new service helps put the "International" in Reno-Tahoe Inter-national, and is the first scheduled international air service at RNO since 1999.

The Volaris Flight Crew and Mariachis from Guadalajara celebrated the first departure on Dec. 16th

The first departure left RNO on December 16, 2014, and the twice weekly service will operate every Tuesday and Friday. The international flight is the culmination of months of work between Volaris and a dedicated group of Reno-Tahoe partners including the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT), the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSVCA), local hotels, casinos and ski resorts, the Hispanic Chamber and Reno Vice-Mayor Oscar Delgado.

The Airport's Fire Department performs a ceremonial Water Arch as the first international flight arrives.

The airport has worked closely with NCOT to develop key relationships in Mexico. Reno-Tahoe hotel, casino and ski partners offered room deals for the new international travelers. The Hispanic Chamber also worked with the airport to connect with the local Latino population to be ready to promote the flight and welcome Mexican travelers to our community.

In addition, the airport worked closely with Customs and Border Patrol in both Washington and San Francisco, as well as with the Nevada Federal Delegation, to obtain landing rights for the flight that brings an estimated $20 million in economic impact to the region each year.

Volaris operates an Airbus 320 with 174 seats, each Tuesday and Friday. It departs Guadalajara at 11:30 a.m. and arrives in Reno at 1:50 p.m. The flight then departs Reno at 3:20 p.m. and lands in Guadalajara at 8:55 p.m. For more information, visit www.renoairport.com.
