Now Landing...New Cargo Carrier at Reno-Tahoe International

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is proud to announce new cargo service with Amerijet International, Inc.

Amerijet landed at RTIA on July 7, 2014, with a B767 wide body freighter, making Reno-Tahoe International one of its key air cargo hubs and bringing jobs and dollars to the region. But Amerijet represents more than a new cargo carrier; it is a new way of doing cargo business in the Biggest Little City.

The Amerijet concept connects the eastern United States, through Columbus Ohio, with the West Coast through Reno, Nevada. It uses a combination of air transport with a Boeing 767 and trucking to get cargo to destinations on the East and West Coast in 2 or 3 days and in a less expensive way than the big name cargo carriers. Amerijet's unique, cost-effective business model, that blends air cargo with trucking, is a perfect fit for the region's growing list of distribution centers.

Amerijet selected Reno over much bigger California communities because of our convenient airport, amazing road access and thriving distribution and logistics economy. And in addition to offering service for intercontinental and domestic freight coast to coast, Amerijet leased a 10,000 square foot facility at RTIA, including five loading docks located on Air Cargo Way.

With Reno-Tahoe International Airport already experiencing cargo growth at 4 percent above the national average, and our logistics community thriving, Amerijet's blend of flying and trucking makes business sense. For additional information, visit Amerijet online at www.renoairport.com or at www.amerijet.com.

Airport Award Honors Governor Brian Sandoval

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval was presented with the Chairman's Outstanding Service Award yesterday by the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

Each year, at the end of their year-long term, the Chairman of the Airport Board of Trustees selects a recipient of the award based upon their dedication and support of the airport. Former Chairman Adam Mayberry, of Sparks, chose Governor Sandoval in recognition of his steadfast support of both Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports.

"His commitment to economic development extends beyond our state and national borders," Mayberry said. "Governor Sandoval has included the airport on trade missions to Asia to attract international investment in our community and extend the recognition of Nevada worldwide."

Mayberry also cited the Governor's support of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in Nevada and airport special events as reasons for the award.

After accepting the award, the Governor told the Airport Board he was "humbled" by the honor. "I am a frequent flier and I can tell you that every time I come through the airport I am greeted with kindness; the terminal is spotless and it makes that all-important first impression on me and other travelers," Gov. Sandoval said. "When people travel great distances, they should be welcomed properly and this airport does that extremely well."

From Runway to Playa...Airport Welcomes the Burning Man Festival

This month, more than 15,000 "Burners"
will arrive at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, here to attend the annual Burning Man Festival.

Burning Man is the single largest annual event to pass through RTIA, with an estimated economic impact on the airport of more than $10 million from airline ticket sales, car rentals, and money spent in the restaurants and retail shops.

The airport welcomes this unique group in a variety of ways: from setting up a Welcome Area in Baggage Claim for travel information, to an eight foot tall Mini-Man in the terminal, or through our partnership with the Black Rock Arts Foundation that provides artwork in the depARTures Gallery on the second floor.

AirPlayaInfo, a satellite information desk located in the airport's Baggage Claim, will operate from Thursday, August 21st through Thursday, August 28th during peak travel times. It will be staffed by volunteers who will be able to provide fellow Burners with a variety of information and resources, including referrals to local "burner- friendly" lodging, transportation to and from the playa, as well as local shopping and supplies.

Since bicycles are the primary mode of transportation on the playa, when the 15,000 tired and dusty Burners return to the airport, many of them bring their bikes with them. This year, the Airport is excited to partner with the Kiwanis Club to stage an area where the Burners may off-load their bicycles. Kiwanis members will collect and refurbish the bikes and donate them to children in the community. This is a win-win for all involved and provides a great service to our local youth.

With passengers from over 34 different countries traveling through the airport from as faraway countries as Iceland, Egypt, Morocco, or China, Burning Man puts the "international" in Reno-Tahoe International. The Airport is proud to welcome these visitors from across the globe to Northern Nevada.

Taking the Lead...Airport Board Chair Carasali

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Trustees recently selected a new Board Chair to guide the direction of Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports.
Nat Carasali, Airport Authority Board Chair

Nat Carasali is a Founding Partner of Peppermill Casinos, Inc. He has served on the Board of the Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, the Nevada Athletic Commission and the Reno Citizens Advisory Board for Reno Redevelopment District II.

With a laser-like focus on Air Service, Chair Carasali, along with the other eight Board Trustees, is actively engaged in pulling the community together to add air service to the region. He was appointed by the Washoe County Commission in July 2013, and is looking forward to using his extensive experience in the hospitality industry to attract new air service.

"I want to continue giving back to this great community" Carasali said. "I have many years of experience in business and tourism that will help me be an effective Chairman of the Airport Authority Board. The airport is vital to the community and I will be working together with the other board members to bring more air service for the economic benefit of the region."

Other officers for Fiscal Year 2014-15 are: Andy Wirth, Vice Chair; Kosta Arger M.D., Treasurer; and Rick Murdock, Secretary.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board of Trustees consists of nine members appointed by the City of Reno, City of Sparks, Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority. Each Trustee brings a comprehensive history of community service to the board combined with a wide range of business expertise.

Fitch Affirms Airport Authority's "A" Rating

Fitch Ratings recently affirmed the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority "A" rating, one of the highest ratings possible, with a stable financial outlook. Fitch reports a healthy balance sheet for Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports, which both operate without any local tax dollars.

Some of the factors listed by Fitch Ratings in support of the "A" rating include Reno-Tahoe International Airport's low cost per enplaned passenger when compared to peer airports. In addition, Fitch cited a moderate infrastructure plan, stable debt structure, low leverage and strong liquidity, with over 500 days of cash on hand.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority operates like a business and generates all its revenue onsite from tenant and concession fees. By maintaining low operating costs, the airport can remain competitive in the aviation industry and attract new air service.

Despite the economic slowdown and its impact on passenger traffic, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority has continually had its "A" credit rating confirmed by Fitch Ratings, a national recognized credit rating agency since July 2005.

Passengers Will Dig the Mining Industry Exhibit at RNO

The Nevada Mining Association has designed an interactive display that highlights how minerals in Nevada help aircraft fly and keep the airport operating.

Last month, Nevada Mining Association President Tim Crowley and Airport CEO Marily Mora, demonstrated a high tech interactive mining display in the Reno-Tahoe International Airport terminal.

Passengers young and old can use a touch screen TV, video and push buttons that show a map of where specific minerals are mined in Nevada to learn how vital this industry is for the travel industry. The display highlights the relationship between two of Nevada's most important industries.

The next time you travel, stop by the new display located post-security in the B Concourse. And don't forget about the Mighty Miners Playsite, also sponsored by the Nevada Mining Association and located next to McDonalds, where little ones can climb on mining-themed toys and play before boarding a flight.
