Devotion
Patience
It's what many people don't have much of right now.  January is supposed to be the time for new things. A new year, new resolutions, a fresh start, new adventures, but what does it seem we are stuck with?  We have new worries, broken resolutions, new stresses, and plain frustration with dark, cold, lifeless days. Many times we want to say, "Can we just get on with the year and get to spring?  There are so many things to look forward to, why do we have to go through this period of purgatory?"

I see this time of year as a planning period. It's a time to patiently wait to contemplate what God is doing.  I love what He says in Isaiah 43:19:  Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?  Instead of being frustrated with the time of year, I try to be a productive planner, accomplishing tasks that I can do now, planning for the future, and waiting patiently for the things to come.  When I become impatient I try to reflect on what Christ has done for me and his immense patience with me, a sinful human being who wants to serve Him in whatever way He wants me to serve.  But many times I even mess that up.  Despite my faults, I take great hope in the great patience He has taken with me as He says in 1 Timothy 1:16:  But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.

Honors Diploma
The Board of Directors recently approved a new Honors Diploma.  Freshmen and Sophomores have an opportunity to pursue this diploma by completing additional graduation requirements focused on preparation for college and career. Students earning the Honors Diploma will receive an Honors sticker on their diploma, a notation on their transcript along with an explanation, and will wear a special Honor stole at graduation.  Unfortunately, because the requirements are both lengthy and rigorous, it would be difficult for juniors and seniors to complete the requirements.  However, if a junior or senior finds that they have already completed a number of the requirements, they may contact the Academic Dean to determine the possibility of completion.  More information about the Honors Diploma and the requirements will be available in February.  Questions can be directed to Lisa Meyers, lmeyers@vlhs.com

Parenting and sexual issues have never been easy.  Unfortunately, pornography is not only an issue for high school students.  It is an issue for all ages and it is quietly invading our homes through the internet.
