Time Flies
I have to share this with you....yesterday when I went home from school, I was assaulted.  Well, maybe not assaulted - more like assailed.  OK, that's exaggerating - it was more like profoundly irritated.  You see, when I went to my mailbox therein lay an invitation from AARP to begin my membership.  AARP stands for American Association for Retired Persons and I'm pretty sure that they are only supposed to invite "older" people.   I hurried to call and notify them of this grave mistake.  The patient woman on the other end of the line had me verify my birthday and, lo and behold, I qualify!  This should not be.  Where did the time go?  It was just yesterday that I was a new high school student anxiously trying to get my locker open.

Now, I am greeting the Class of 2019 and helping them find the music room.  Their year will go fast.  Their four years here will go too fast.  It is reassuring that as time flies beyond our control, that we can rest in Jesus knowing that He is ultimately in control of all things and through Him, we have "a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time" (Titus 1:2).  And at Valley Lutheran, we pray that students are reminded of this saving message each and every day.   Blessings on the new school year!  Side note....maybe I'll send that AARP thing in anyway - it looks like I get a free duffle bag!

Fall Service Day is September 30th
Putting faith into "action" is an important part of the mission of Valley "to serve in the world".  Students get the opportunity to do just that on Fall Service Day, Wednesday, Sept. 30th.  Between 8-9 a.m. they will join their family group at some location in the Great Lakes Bay Region to help others.  The day will conclude between noon and 1pm.

Permission slips with specific site location and times will be sent home with students as the date approaches.  All students are required to attend service day, so mark this day on your calendar and keep it open.

Books will be sold from September 15th through October 6th.  The books will be available from any Valley Lutheran student or in the school office.  The price is $25.   To purchase a book contact any VLHS student or the VLHS office at 790-1676.  Families may also "check out" a large number of books to sell at your work or church.  Please contact Karla Weiss at 671-1711 or ekweiss@prodigy.net if you wish to sell extra books.

Entertainment books make great gifts! Don't forget to register your card and use the mobile application on your smart phone for additional coupons good across the country.  If you have a favorite local business you'd like to see in the book, please let Karla Weiss know as she can send in suggestions for possible additions to the electronic coupons.

Parent Organization Mum Sale
Fall is right around the corner.  Add some gorgeous fall color to your yard and support the VLHS Parent Organization at the same time.  The colorful mums will sell for $10 a plant one evening only, before the first Valley home football game on Thursday, Sept. 3rd, from 3-6:30pm in the school parking lot.  The plants will be sold on a cash and carry basis.  If you have any questions, contact Amy Shrank at 989-607-5902.
Post Prom 2016
The Post Prom Committee works together to coordinate the Post Prom Party that is held at SVSU Ryder Center after the Prom. Post Prom is a safe and fun environment after prom for all juniors and seniors and their dates, even if they don't attend the prom.  There is food, games, prizes, and fellowship.  We have had close to 200 students attend each year. This type of coordination happens because of the efforts of the volunteers on the committee which meets once a month on a Sunday at Valley, except for the month of December.  You do not have to chaperone or attend every meeting to be part of the committee.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Our first meeting will be Sunday, September 13th at 4pm in the cafeteria.
Tables Available at Holiday Bazaar
The annual Valley Lutheran Holiday Bazaar is being held on Saturday, October 31st from 9am-3pm.
Limited rental tables are available.  Click here to find the vendor contract.  Deadline is October 12th.
