Grandparent's/Special Person's Day
They're back - Grandparent's/Special Person's Days every Thursday at 8:00am during the month of February.  Each Thursday in February has been set aside so that our students can share with their special person(s) first hand what makes Valley Lutheran so special.  The seniors are encouraged to sign up their grandparent(s) or special person(s) for Feb. 5th, the juniors for Feb.12th, the sophomores for Feb. 19th, and the freshmen for Feb. 26th.  The guests are invited to come at 8:00am and stay through lunch, if their schedule permits.  Our special guests will take a tour of the school, attend a chapel service, and enjoy a VLHS lunch, if they would like.

For more specific details or to register for the day click here .  If you have further questions, you may direct them to Mr. Doug Guenther at 989-790-1676 or email him at dguenther@vlhs.com.
Shadow Opportunities
If you know of a family who homeschools their children or has students at one of the public middle schools and is looking for a high school to call "home," please let them know their children are welcome to spend the day (or part of a day) as a "shadow" at Valley.  We will match them up with a current VLHS student, and they will get an inside look at the family-like Valley Lutheran experience.

For more information, contact Mr. Tom Roekle, Director of Student Recruitment, to schedule a day.  He may be contacted at 989-790-1676 or troekle@vlhs.com.

Dessert Makers Needed for the Auction

Dessert makers wanted!  Once again we will offer a Dessert of the Month item at the VLHS auction.  We have a great list of volunteers, but could use a few more.  Your obligation is to make a dessert for about 12 people just once in a month of your choice during the time period February 2015 to January 2016.   Contact Lori Milroy (lorimilroy@charter.net or 790-1795) for more information or to sign up.

"Oktoberfest" Tickets Available
Join us once again at the Apple Mountain Conference Center for fun, fellowship, and food...maybe even some polka...as the 12th Annual VLHS Dinner Auction gets underway at 5pm with hors d'oeuvres and the silent auction. A delicious dinner and the live auction follow, with the evening wrapping up in the atrium for the after-glow. In addition to the bounty of good food and fun, each ticket holder will get to take home a commemorative glass stein.  Tickets for the evening are $65 and limited, so get yours from the school office soon!

Donations are also welcome.  Consider offering merchandise, tickets, services, vacation homes, or $25 gift cards to area gas stations or grocery stores.  There are also opportunities to participate by way of prayer, advertising, or sponsorship.

Go to www.vlhsauction.com to check out the auction website.

New Golf Outing Chair Needed

Looking for a New Year's Resolution?  How about getting involved more at VLHS?  We are looking for someone to come forward to co-chair the VLHS golf outing with Lori Drinan.  Lori's son TJ is graduating this year, and she is looking for someone to take her place.  She is willing to co-chair with someone this year to make the transition easier. If this is something you would be willing to do, please contact Dr. Brandt at jbrandt@vlhs.com or Lori at ldrinan@peacesaginaw.org.

 Victory over Death

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God,  nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true:

    "Death has been

    swallowed up in

victory." 55 "Where, O       death, is your victory?

Where, O death, is your     sting?"

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,

because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

~1 Corinthians 15:50-58  NIV
