The month of December was a busy one for the VLHS Key Club.  In addition to ringing bells for the Salvation Army, they filled 50 boxes that were distributed through the Saginaw Rescue Mission to homeless men.

Grandparents/Special Friends Days
Coming in February
The tradition continues!  Grandparents and Special Friends love to visit VLHS, and our students love to share with them first hand what makes Valley Lutheran so special.  Each Thursday in February has been set aside to do just that.  The seniors are encouraged to sign up their guest(s) for Feb. 5th, juniors for Feb. 12th, sophomores for Feb. 19th, and freshmen for Feb. 26th.  The guests are invited to come at 8am and stay through lunch, if their schedule permits. Our special guests will take a tour of the school, sit through an entire class with their student host, attend a chapel service, and taste a VLHS lunch if they would like.

For more information contact Doug Guenther at 989-790-1676 or dguenther@vlhs.com.

Warning:  Sexting - Possibly a Lifetime of Consequences
A recent Oakland Press news article described a sexting scandal in the Rochester Schools that is now leading to possible criminal charges.  We hope Valley Lutheran students, who are aware of God's law (the 6th commandment -" You shalt not commit adultery"), would not engage in sexting.  Unfortunately, we live in a sinful world that pulls us from God's path and thus we must be reminded of the dangers associated with sin.

What can you do?  Read the attached article - it is concise and clearly identifies some of the consequences connected with sexting.  Talk with your child about potential spiritual, social and legal consequences.  Some of the legal consequences are described in the article.  Common social consequences include being ostracized by peers and the subject rumors.  Violating God's law results in spiritual problems usually identified in the feelings associated with guilt.  Remember - the spiritual consequences have a clear solution as God's grace in the form of Jesus' sacrifice will heal the repentant heart.

Silence is Golden

My mother's uncle passed away last week.  At his funeral, I was reminded of the power of actions.  Her uncle had suffered through cancer, and at the end of his life he not only had cancer of the throat but lost his ability to speak.  Now this didn't slow him down, and he learned quickly how to still get his point across.  He didn't have to speak to show his faith, to express his love for his Lord, or to worship.  It was evident at his funeral that he was a man of God regardless of the fact that he had no "voice."  It got me thinking about the old adage that actions speak louder than words.

In this day and age society is becoming so bent on political correctness that the very Word of God is being questioned.  So much so that we may lose our "voice."  I am thankful that our school still professes what we believe with our words, but I also believe that our actions are sometimes heard more than anything we say.  So what are you saying?  "I love you.  I forgive you.  Jesus loves you.  He died for you."  Let your actions tell the story.  Let your life, as sinful as we all are, be an ambassador for Christ.

That may seem like a lot of pressure, but 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 assures us, "So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us.  We speak for Christ when we plead, "Come back to God."  For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ."
