  • Exams will start at 8:00am each morning.
  • Most students will be finished with exams by 11:25am.  (Exceptions to this would be those students who might have double classes.  These exams will conclude by 1:00pm.)
  • Click here to see the final exam schedule.  The link can also be found on our website by clicking on the calendar tab at the top of the page, then Final Exams.  We are on the Third Cycle.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE:  Students may come late only if they  have a second hour final or leave early only if they have a first hour final.  However, we do expect all students to attend chapel either way.  Chapel runs 9:35-9:50am all three days.
  • A study hall will be offered for any students who do not have a scheduled exam and must remain at school.
  • Some single semester classes will have their exam at the end of the semester in January.  The teachers will inform their students if their exam is in January.
  • Dec. 15th and Dec 16th are review days in all classes,  therefore, it is very valuable for students to be in attendance.
Christmas Family Collection
Every year the VLHS community comes together to help local families celebrate Christmas by providing needed household items, clothes, toys, and food.  This year combined second hour classes will be collecting items for 6 families.  A letter from Miss Feldkamp detailing the project, the class assignments, and the needs of each family was recently sent home. A copy of this letter can be found here.  Please send in your donations by Monday, December 15th, so Valley students can wrap and deliver the gifts later that week.  If you have any questions about this program, please contact Bev Feldkamp at Valley (790-1676), via email bfeldkamp@vlhs.com or at home (790-7149).  Thank you!

March for Life ~ going...going...

In January, a full-sized motor coach full of students, parents and teachers will travel from Valley Lutheran High School to Washington D.C. for the March for Life, an annual event that takes place on January 22 to protest the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision made on that day in 1973, to legalize abortion in the United States.  In addition to the March, the group will attend a youth rally and the LCMS Life Conference to learn more about the pro-life movement and how to defend the most helpless among us.  You are invited and encouraged to join the group in a variety of ways.  First of all, you could travel with the group to make your voice heard on behalf of the voiceless (but you'll want to hurry, only 15 seats are left).  If you're unable to physically participate but would like to support their trip, the students would be happy to do yard work, babysit, return your pop cans, or help with other odd jobs.  Most importantly, please pray for the participants, all involved with this peaceful protest, and for the end of abortion in America.  For more information, please contact Mrs. Bess Winter or Mrs. Cris Urbytes at VLHS (790-1676).

Dream Crusher

"You can be anything you want to be!"  This is one of the biggest misconceptions that adults often tell young people.  It's motivating to hear, exciting even, but it's not true. We all have earthly limitations, weaknesses, and limited potential.  It's a harsh reality, but it is a reality.  If you question this, I suggest that you stop by the gym later today, throw 600 lbs. onto a barbell, and try to crank out about 20 or 30 reps.  When you fail, understand that it's not your lack of faith that prevented you from succeeding.  It's a lack of physical strength combined with the law of gravity.

In Philippians 4:13 Paul writes, "I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me."  Doesn't that mean that we can accomplish anything we want, if Jesus has our back?  The simple answer is, "no".  If this was true, Paul would never have spent a day in prison.  Instead of writing to the Philippians from a prison cell, he would have simply used his "faith" to pry open the jail cell door, so he could continue to evangelize to God's people.  The verse is stripped of its context when people use it to motivate others to "dream big, and believe that God will inevitably bless you with all of the desires of your heart."  As author Johnathan Merritt so aptly puts it, "He's not encouraging Christians to go out and conquer the world; he's reminding them that they can press on when the world conquers them."

In the verses that precede this iconic verse, Paul writes about how to be content in every condition.  Even when we're hungry, tired, or overwhelmed, we can be content.  It's not that we can achieve anything and everything, but that the final results are something we can handle.  If, for example, a team loses a gut-wrenching regional finals volleyball match in five sets, it is possible for that team to walk away with its heads held high, and even to be in a state of contentedness.  Wow, that' s tough to fathom.  It almost takes MORE faith to believe that we can contentedly endure all things, even with Christ's help.

Maybe it's because, in the past, we've consistently allowed our situation to dictate our state of emotional health  (ie. we are discontent).  This happens most when we are reminded that life isn't fair, and that our best, most intentional efforts may still result in failure.  However, the contentedness is derived from the fact that Christ has DONE ALL THINGS that ultimately matter, so we don't have to.  He won, so we win, and any earthly setbacks we must endure pale in comparison to the eternal reward God's followers receive.  So, the next time you are disappointed because you didn't get the iPhone 9cc (not out yet), but instead received a pair of hideous Christmas socks that light up, remember that it's your option to be content.  Nobody said it would be easy.
