Hello everyone! Sending you the best of luck with this last week of finals!

- Have FOMO of Hanukkah dinner at home? Running low on meal credits? Looking for some social interaction after too much time in the library? Come for a quick study break, a cozy dinner, and some FREE FRIED FOOD at tonight's Hanukkah Community Dinner (6:30pm at Hillel). 

- Enjoy free Hanukkah treats, drinks, Yarmulkazi music, and the light of the ice menorah tomorrow night at "Miracle on Wriston II: Festival of Ice" (6 pm on Wriston Quad).

- Check out the official "All the Lights" Hannukah music video featuring The Brown Jabberwocks and directed by Hillel Engagement Intern, Marli Scharlin! The video was recently named one of its five favorite Hanukkah videos by the Union of Reform Judaism.



- Hillel will be open throughout finals period. Stop by to study or just to relax. We have plenty of  snacks, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate to keep you going. The building is open 9am to 11pm through Friday and 10am to 6pm on Saturday.

The Brown RISD Hillel Programming Board has put together a super easy, relaxed, and low-key Hanukkah dinner for those wanting to celebrate the first night.

Menorah lighting is at 6:30, and then we'll move to the Meeting Room upstairs for a family-style falafel and pita pocket dinner.

6-7pm: "Miracle on Wriston II: Festival of Ice" (Wriston Quad) 

Chabad and Hillel are proud to present a miracle-filled finals study break: "Miracle on Wriston II: Festival of Ice". Enjoy Hanukkah snacks, warm beverages, and the musical stylings of Yarmulkazi while marveling in the frozen, candlelit glory of the ice menorah.

Thursday, December 18

6-7pm: Hanukkah Study Break

Take a break from studying to come light candles. Grab some gelt and a donut and get powered up to get more work done. 

 

Friday, December 19

6:15pm Havurah (Beit Midrash), Reform (Student Lounge) Services
Some background on our two service options:
- Havurah is a traditional egalitarian Carlebach-style minyan that strives to create a prayer experience full of ruach (energy), song, and meaningful connection. 
- Reform Minyan is an open, inclusive service that draws from the music and traditions of the Reform movement. We welcome participants of all backgrounds to join us for singing, prayer, and discussion. 
 
7:30pm: Kiddush (blessing over grape juice) and Free Shabbat Dinner (Social Hall)
Our last Shabbat dinner of the semester! If you can, please RSVP to info@brownrisdhillel.org for head count purposes. However, please don't hesitate to show up if you find yourself available last minute!


 
Saturday, December 20

12:30-1:30pm: Shabbat Lunch (Social Hall)


 
4-5pm: Seudah Shlishit (Third Meal)

Closed: Sunday, December 21 and Thursday, December 25 to Sunday, Januar 4.

 

Hillel will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 19. 

 

We will resume our regular hours on Tuesday, January 20 (M-F 9am to 11 pm, Sat 10am to 8 pm, Sun 12 pm to 6 pm).

Submit to Mahberet Magazine
Mahberet Magazine, the literary magazine of Brown RISD Hillel, is looking for submissions! We publish art, poems, essays, photos, and more related to Jewish life. Did you write a great essay for your Judaic Studies class? Did you write a great poem or reflection about a Jewish holiday? Did you take an awesome photo of an event at Hillel? If so, we would love to consider your work in our first round of submissions! Submit your work by emailing it to mahberet@brownrisdhillel.org.

Campus Announcements 

Salsa Fitness w/ RI Latin Dance (Mondays at Hillel - resuming after winter break)
Salsa fitness incorporates Afri-cuban body movement, basic fundamentals of salsa NY style footwork and techniques from professional dance training exercises. The music used in the class is authentic salsa, Latin cha cha cha and Afro-cuban music. This class if for everyone and is a unique, fun, aerobic, low impact workout program. Join Mori Granot Mondays 6:30-7:30pm at Hillel. Cost is $5 per class.
