Wow. September zipped by at hyper-speed. I think there is too much going on. After a very energetic and successful east coast Speakers Tour, we can let Damian Skinner off the hook and give him a big round of applause. He did an excellent job talking about Contemporary Jewelry in Perspective and doing critiques at six different locations. Thank you Damian.

Next up in October are events that include other contributors to the book--Ben Lignel, Namita Wiggers, Liesbeth den Besten, Suzanne Ramljak, and Elyse Karlin--who will speak at the 92nd Street Y (New York), San Diego State University (San Diego), Museum of Contemporary Craft (Portland), University of Oregon (Eugene), California College of Art (Oakland), Cranbrook Academy of Art (Bloomfield Hills), Savannah College of Art & Design (Savannah), and finally SOFA Chicago. Please have a look at the full list of speakers and locations, and then GO.

For those of you who can't make it to the talks, we will begin to post videos of them on our website as soon as possible. I'll let you know when they are ready.

In the meantime, don't forget to take advantage of purchasing our new book Contemporary Jewelry in Perspective. Your donations helped to make this possible. I hope you are pleased with the result.

Hope to see you at one of the events.

EXCLUSIVELY FOR YOU: SOFA CHICAGO October 31-November 3, 2013

SOFA Chicago This is the twentieth year for SOFA Chicago and the last year that the fair is under the management of Mark Lyman and Anne Meszko. It is the end of an era. As always, there will be jewelry to see at the following booths: Aaron Faber Gallery, Charon Kransen Arts, Donna Schneier Fine Arts, Hedone Gallery, and Pistachios.

There will be numerous jewelry-related lectures you won't want to miss on Friday, November 1. We are sponsoring a presentation with Monica Gaspar that will take place that day at 3:30 pm. After Monica's talk, there will be a book signing at the AJF booth in the nonprofit section of the fair. Contemporary Jewelry in Perspective will be for sale there as well.

Charon Kransen Arts will be showing the work of Sooyeon Kim, the winner of the AJF Artist Award for an Emerging Artist, in his booth at SOFA. Be sure to stop by.

As a special treat, SOFA organizers have invited AJF donors to attend a special champagne toast on opening night, Thursday, October 31, at 4:00pm. This event is by invitation only. Sign up for your VIP passes and the special opening here

Special Gathering

On Friday November 1, from 6:00-7:30 pm (following the book signing) AJF has reserved space in a bar called the Library at the Public House Hotel, which is located at 1301 North State Parkway, Chicago. This is a FREE event, but a no-host bar. If you would like to attend, please let me know by email. I would also suggest that you make dinner reservations in the Pump Room restaurant afterward. It looks yummy.

2013 JOYA BarcelonaThis year, the JOYA jewelry fair will take place from October 17-19 in Barcelona, Spain. JOYA has become the most important art jewelry fair specializing in the Mediterranean countries and Latin America in Europe. Some of the participants this year are Jorge Manilla, Walka Studio, Mirla Fernandes, AGC from Italy, AORP from Portugal, and Corpo from Brazil.

For FREE VIP PASSES to the fair, contact the organizer Paulo Riberiro directly.

2013 SieraadThis year marks the 12th anniversary of the Sieraad International Jewellery Fair. It will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from November 7-10, 2013. Of special interest at Sieraad 2013 is student work from a number of schools and a strong contingent of American jewelers. More than 165 artists from all over the world will present their work to the public.

You may acquire FREE VIP PASSES by contacting Astrid Berens, the fair organizer.
