  Shake It Up
Presentation Tips from the Dogs

When dogs feel nervous, they shake off their tension. When you find yourself breathing shallowly before a presentation, you can shake off tension, too.

1. Find a private place, like a bathroom stall.

2. With door closed, shake it up! Wriggle and shake your body from your knees to your shoulders (not your neck). Flap your wrists and BREATHE.

3. Take three more deep breaths through your nose before exiting.

You will feel the energy zoom back into your body. You have re-oxygenated your blood and refreshed  your brain. Much calmer now, you are ready to make a successful entrance.

"Dead Dialogue" Solutions
Compare these two questions.

A.) "Did you have a good weekend?"
B.) "If you could create a perfect weekend, what would it look like?"

"A" is a close-ended question. It elicits a yes/no, black/white sort of answer. Examples of close-ended questions include "What browser do you use?" "Do you like this?" and "What time is it?"

"B" is an open-ended question. It has the power to break conversational logjams. Other examples of open-ended questions include "What are ways of looking at this issue?" or "How might people react?" They can even begin with the phrases "If time and money were no obstacle...," or "If we had a magic wand to fix this, what would we do?"

Prevent one-syllable answers and dead dialogues.  Sprinkle a variety of open and close-ended questions throughout your session.
