How Sea-Tac nurtures the environment & small business owners.

The Port of Seattle continues to invest in sustainability and small business development to improve quality of life and expand opportunities.

Environmental Award Winners
Most recently, the Port recognized winners of this year's Environmental Excellence Green Gateway Awards at Sea-Tac Airport. Among them was Des Moines Area Food Bank, a partner with the airport for 10 years in providing needy families with nutritious surplus meals donated by airport tenants. Since 2006, the food bank distributed 183,000 meals in airport communities.

Business owner Randi Sibonga, associated with the first certified women-owned business at Sea-Tac decades ago, today partners with others to operate more than two dozen airport stores. Read her small business success story here.
Encouraging Small Business Owners
One of the ways the Port of Seattle supports small business owners is by hosting workshops on how to do business with the Port.
Current workshops are for small business owners who are, or are interested in, earning certification as an Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE). The remaining three sessions are scheduled for May 22 and June 5 and 12. Participants will learn about what is involved in operating a concession at Sea-Tac, proposal writing, contractual and financial considerations, and what is involved in earning an ACDBE certification. Throughout Q1, the Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority team has been working hard to effectively market Seattle Southside as a desirable destination and attract more visitors to the Seattle Southside region. 2016 was a whirlwind year for the RTA and for the destination; and the RTA staff hopes to keep the momentum going through 2017 and beyond.
