May Scrapbooking Tip
Using Spray Inks/MistsPerhaps while the kids were dying their Easter eggs last month, or you saw them at the local scrapbook store or you won some at one of our crops; you may have been inspired to try spray inks or mists on your projects. You can use spray ink to carefully color paper, chipboard and other accents for your scrapbook layouts, or to create cool artistic looks on your page background. It is a very popular distressed look, but can be intimidating. Surprisingly, this technique is easy to do and yields appealing results. You just need to know where to start! This video by Glimmer Girl at Two Peas in a Bucket was INCREDIBLY helpful for me. I learned a lot about the kinds of inks available and which ones I think I prefer. She also has a great page with more information and additional challenges to encourage you to try this technique! |
2015 Dates Announced!
While we were at the crop in April, we were able to work with the new staff at the Holiday Inn to set our 2015 dates much sooner than we expected! As a result, here are our dates: You may notice that we have added a 5th, summer, date! Demand is so high for our crops and we have had many people ask for a summer date over the years, so we are going to give it a shot! REGISTRATION FOR JANUARY 2015 AND THOSE SIGNING UP FOR ALL FIVE DATES WILL OPEN IN SEPTEMBER 2014. As usual, we will offer a 10% discount to those that register for all 5 dates and offer some payment plans for qualifying registrations. Stay tuned to Facebook and our newsletters for more information on when exactly the date will open.

April Crop A Huge Success
The April crop is barely over and my buzz is still going! We had so much fun scrapping and eating and meeting new friends. We gave away over $2,600 in prizes and gifts.
Congratulations to those who won our layout contests! They each won storage/organization totes.
We gave away a $200 set of Copic markers to Crops Plus newcomer, Deborah Draxler.

Annual Food Drive - AMAZING generosity!
Over 500 pounds of food and toiletries
Once again, at the April crop, we held a food drive to help those in need. We donated the food to Link, INC, a charity that exists to provide emergency food to people in need in the Herndon, Sterling, and Ashburn, Virginia communities.
We far exceeded our goal, which was to beat the 450 pounds of food that we had donated last April. Congratulations to Laurie McDougall, who won the Scrap'n Easel in the raffle for those who donated. A HUGE THANK YOU to all who participated and helped shuttle all the goods to Carrie's car (see photo below). We received the following email from Carrie at LINK:
"On behalf of LINK I wish to thank you for the support and generosity your business and enthusiastic croppers shared with us. To all of you who helped - We say thank you! Need is great and demand on businesses, groups, and individuals continues to grow. Thank you for choosing to offer your time, generosity and commitment to LINK. I assure you that all donations, large or small, make a big difference.
The volume of paper products was amazing and so perfectly timed. All household products, hygiene items, and non-perishables went directly to the LINK pantry and have been mostly dispersed already.
LINK depends entirely on volunteers and donations for every aspect of its daily commitments and holiday programs. It is because of your commitment to helping the community that many in need were able to benefit from these events.
It is our hope that your group and its donors enjoyed the experience and will want to partner with LINK again in the future.
Even though you allowed me my minute of fame, I hope you can share this with e-mail with your inspiring group so that all know how significant their actions and contributions were.
My best to all of these inspired women with their future creations.
With much gratitude and many thanks- Carrie from LINK"
