October Scrapbooking Tip
Paint is back!
Paint was widely used a few years ago as a technique in design, and it is making a strong comeback. Inexpensive and readily available, paint is a fun, easy-to-use supply to utilize on your scrapbook layouts. Use it to add artistic edges to your layout, to create unique accents, and to add textural interest to your pages by edging layout elements with paint.
Tips for Success * Apply paint in a thin layer to allow it to dry quickly. * While it looks great to edge elements with neutral colors like black, brown, and white, consider using brighter colors that coordinate with your layout. * Don't have a foam brush handy? Use your fingers to paint the edges on your layout. You can also create a fun effect using a spare toothbrush. * Mix a little metallic spray ink into your paint to add a slight shimmer to your project. Q&A Q. What's the best type of paint to use on scrapbook layouts? A. We like acrylic paint because it's inexpensive, easy to find, and comes in so many colors. Click here for a quick guide to different types of paint. Q. Can I apply glitter to my painted edges? A. Absolutely! Sprinkle the glitter on while the paint is still wet. Consider applying a clear-drying glaze over the glittered paint if you want a shiny, sparkly finish. Or, try a paint with glitter already mixed in. Q. What other techniques for using paint on scrapbook layouts can I try? A. Here are three fun ideas to get you started: - Paint on transparencies. Paint around the edges and leave the center clear, or paint the transparency and cut it into shapes.
- Apply paint to foam stamps and stamp on your layouts. Try letter stamps, image stamps, or even background stamps.
- Paint stripes on a layout by applying strips of masking tape to your cardstock before painting it, or try the clever idea using a piece of corrugated cardboard or bubble wrap. Simply paint the surface of the cardboard or the bubbles and then press on to your pages.

Featured Vendor: Scrapbooks Plus
Meet Debbie, owner of the best scrapbook store around!
Debbie Chabot, owner of Scrapbooks Plus, started out scrapbooking like many of us did - with a little curiosity and a lot of excitement. Several years ago, Debbie and her husband, Marc, were heading to Paris for their 15th wedding anniversary. Armed with a new camera that took panoramic photos, Debbie went into a local art supply store looking for an album that would be big enough to store the longer photos. She saw glimpses of the products available to burgeoning scrapbookers and opted for a 12x12 album, although was not fully aware of the hobby.
A few months later, she was invited to her first Creative Memories party and shortly thereafter was given her first Creating Keepsakes magazine and then ventured into her first scrapbook store. Excited about the creative possibilities and the encouraged by the booming industry, Debbie decided right then and there that she and Marc would open their own scrapbook store. Within 4 months of that decision, Scrapbooks Plus opened its doors! A trained medical professional, Debbie says it's not much of a stretch to go from the healing arts to the creative arts. She says, "When I was in the medical field, I was helping people who were sick and now I am helping people with their memories. It's the same kind of work, but different. It's therapeutic. I still love it." It's easy to see that Debbie loves what she does and the attention that she puts into Scrapbooks Plus. We are so lucky to have her as an exclusive vendor at Crops Plus! You can visit Scrapbooks Plus at http://scrapbooks-plus.com/ and 14502A Lee Road Chantilly, VA 20151 . You can sign up for their monthly newsletter online and follow them on Facebook and Twitter. And don't forget your coupon (found below) when you go! |
