Greetings!

We hope you are tolerating the recent heat wave well enough. We here at Crops Plus are heating up, too! We've been very busy making arrangements for our 2012 events (dates announced below) as well as putting the final touches on the September raffle prize!

We'll be raffling off something truly spectacular: A rolling tote stuffed with over $400 in amazing products. Brand name page kits, albums, papers, embellishments, magazines and tools will be included. To top it all off, we'll throw in $100 worth of the adhesive of your choice! It's a raffle not to be missed!

Stay tuned to our Facebook page and this newsletter to see how you can earn extra raffle tickets before the crop even starts!

Forget summer, it's going to be fun fall! Have a wonderful month!

June Scrapbooking Tip
Side by side photos

Photos are at the heart of your scrapbook pages, so you want to make sure they're the clear focus of each design. You also want to fit numerous photos on a layout, so perhaps you've found that many designs work best when you can place photos side by side to conserve space. This approach is a perfect solution--except when your photos share similar backgrounds.

When photos share similar backgrounds, there is the potential of having the photos blend together, making it difficult for viewers of your scrapbook to clearly differentiate between the pictures on each layout. Follow one of these three solutions to avoid this potential problem in your scrapbook-page designs.

  • Solution #1: Arrange photos so similar backgrounds are not side by side.                                                    If you have multiple photos, simply position them so that no photos with similar colors or backgrounds are side by side. In this layout by Angie Cramer, the visual separation between photos is clear because of the contrast in the colors of the photos and their arrangement.

  • Solution #2: Leave a thin gap between the photos. When you're placing photos directly on the background of your scrapbook page or when the pictures share the same photo mat, position the photos so a slight gap remains between them. The color of the paper background helps the eye visually separate each of the photos.

  • Solution #3: Place strips of paper or cardstock over the seams between similar photos.                         You can also create visual separation between photos by placing thin strips of cardstock between the photos. For a decorative flair, cut the strips into creative shapes instead of straight lines, like Lisa Brown did with this curved line reminiscent of a breeze on a winter day.
