We are 7 days from our second big crop of 2011! We're VERY excited about this event - we have HUGE prizes worth over $4,000, 8 classes over the weekend, as well as wonderful contests planned and 11 amazing vendors scheduled!
The big news is that the April 8-10th crop has been extended to 6pm on Sunday, April 10th! That's 54 hours of uninterrupted cropping time! We still have a few partial seats available. If you are interested, please see below for more information.
We're looking forward to seeing you in just a few days for the April Crop and, as always, please contact us if you have any questions.

April Scrapbooking Tip
Working With Large Photos
Enlarged photos are a great way to focus on a specific person or moment in your life. Large photos become the main focus of the page and require very little embellishing. Enlarge your favorite photos to 5X7 or 8X10 or bigger or try using a panoramic print instead of a border.
Try these simple tips that will help you create shots that are perfect for making a big impact with your layouts.
Taking photos you'd like to enlarge:
- Plan your picture to capture more than just the usual spur-of-the-moment shots.
- Zoom in on your subject. Just because you plan to enlarge the photo, doesn't mean you shouldn't get close to begin with. Fill the frame before you take the picture.
- Angles and line: Tilt your camera to capture a long vertical shot. Try a child coming down the slide, a ladder or stairway. Pull your camera back to get a horizontal line of tall trees or a scenic road.
- Frame your shots but be sure you don't have any distracting backgrounds in your frame. These distractions are noticeable in small photos, but even more so in an enlarged photo.
- Plan on taking two or three shots to capture the right one.
- Focus on facial expressions instead of an entire event.
Using large photos in layouts:
- When you add these to your pages be creative in your layouts. Use large close up photos of an event and another smaller photo of the same event on the same page. Don't be afraid to try something new, you may just create your favorite page.
- When scrapbooking large school photos, you can plan hidden room for journaling and more photos, either under a flap or in pull out section.
- Pair subtle embellishments with dramatic photos so they don't compete for attention.
- Use list-style journaling that spells out the details of an event without using too much space.
- Don't be afraid to cut them down into tall (or wide) thin photo and stack different photos next to each other or use just one photo cut into strips for interest.

Featured Vendor: Sheila Racinez
The Angel Company
Sheila Racinez, aka The Scrapbook Fairy, has been scrapping since her youngest child was born in 1999. Going to crops is her escape from real life and her chance to hang out with kindred spirits. One of her favorite parts of being a vendor is teaching classes where she tries to incorporate a new technique to learn while completing a layout. She has represented various companies in her time with Crops Plus but is currently a consultant for The Angel Company. The Angel Company offers great colorful papers, embellishments, and un-mounted rubber stamps.
Big news for the April crop - Sheila is relocating to California this summer and this will be her last crop (Crops Plus is REALLY bummed about this!) Her husband has asked her to come home with nothing but empty boxes and so she is having a sale. 25% off of everything in her booth! The sale is limited to stock on hand and no orders will be accepted so shop early for the best selection!
She will miss all of the great Crops Plus croppers! |
