Office of the Bishop in Transition:
New communication strategy and staff

Pastor Kent Mueller has been the Rocky Mountain Synod communicator for thirteen years. On August 1, Diaconal Minister Erin Power will be the primary RMS communicator as her call to the Office of the Bishop ministry transitions from half-time to full-time. Pastor Mueller will now be responsible for Candidacy (accompanying those discerning a call to church vocations and attending seminary) and matters of rostered leader support, taking over at the retirement of Pastor Ron Roschke. Maria Sutton, receptionist and communications assistant, will continue to work with compiling the email newsletter.

Kent and Erin have been at work this summer in collaboration and conversation about the RMS communication strategy. Watch for some new formats in the coming month! To make the process more efficient, we have a new submission form for news, events, and job posts. Note the deadline is Monday at noon for the Wednesday edition. You will find a link to the submission form at  or just remember this: www.rmselca.org/submit .

Lutherans represented at historic Orthodox Church council meeting
During the last week in June, the ELCA joined Christians from around the world as the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Christian Church convened on the island of Crete. This was the first time the council had met in more than 1,200 years. It was attended by 220 Orthodox bishops and archbishops and 70 advisers. Throughout the week, the council met and spoke of the importance of unity within the church, lifted up the importance of inter-religious dialogue and talked about its commitment to human rights and religious freedom.

In his keynote address, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, leader of the worldwide Orthodox Christian Church, stressed the importance of unity among the 14 churches that comprise the Orthodox Christian Church. Ten of the 14 churches attended the council meeting.

"The voice of the Comforter calls all to unity and calls us to turn our attention and widen our heart toward all people, lovingly embracing the vital problems that concern them, preaching the good news of peace and love to those near and afar," said Bartholomew.
