Wildfire causes Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp evacuation
Yesterday afternoon, Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp was evacuated after the Hayden Pass Fire came within 1.5 miles of the camp.
About 118 campers and 65 staff members were bused out of the area and taken to the high school in Westcliffe.
From there, parents were able to reach the campers.
The Forest Service triggered the evacuation as a precautionary measure. Our prayers are with the firefighters, camp staff, and campers.

Thanks to all who helped with the Lilly grant surveys!
A sincere thank-you is extended to all the rostered and congregational leaders who participated in the online survey for research being used for the Lilly grant application. The Grant Application Team received returned surveys from over one-third of the invited rostered and congregation leaders. This provides the team with statistically significant results and will help guide the planning for the possible half-million dollars the synod would receive from Lilly Endowment to address economic challenges fainting congregations and rostered leaders.
The Grant Application Team will now be analyzing the results and designing the proposal, which will be due by August 19. Because the survey came at a time when there were lots of summer vacations taking place-and because the congregation survey required coordination between various congregation leaders-the team has decided to keep the congregation survey open through the end of July. Congregation leaders will be able to access the survey through July 31. Once again, we extend our sincere thanks! The Lilly Grant Application Team- Ron Roschke: Project Director, Denver, CO Ron Bockhaus: Pastor, Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church, Estes Park, CO. Deb Elstad: Synod Council member, Salt Lake City, UT
Kirsten Sauey Hofmann: Pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church, Hobbs, NM |

Annual Holy Cross Pilgrimage is July 16
Again this year Mount of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vail, Colorado, will sponsor a pilgrimage hike climbing Notch Mountain (13,237), in order to view the Mount of the Holy Cross (14,005). Because of the popularity of this hike and due to U.S. Forest Service regulations which limit the group to no more than 15 persons at a time, reservations are required.
The date is Saturday July 16, 2016. The event will last from approximately 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a fairly strenuous hike and requires proper hiking gear for a trek in the back country. While there are NO fees, pre-registration is required. Call (970) 476-6610 for a registration form or for more details you can log on the church web page, www.mountholy.com and click on the Pilgrimage link. Pastor Scott Beebe is the hike leader.
