Observe Refugee Sunday in Advent
read Bishop Gonia's letter and use the Litany for Refugees

The Rocky Mountain Synod Council, upon the request of our Synod's Global Mission Committee, has asked congregations to declare one Sunday in Advent 2015 as "Refugee Sunday." Please select a Sunday in Advent to use the
Litany for Refugees, Immigrants, and Asylees. The Litany can be customized for the specific day in which you use it.
Sentences for the day, linked to the propers from the Revised Common Lectionary and Narrative Lectionary, are provided in the document.

On the Sunday you select as Refugee Sunday, read the letter from Bishop Gonia in worship. Additional worship materials, bulletin inserts, videos and other resources are available from Lutheran Refugee and Immigration Services.

Please encourage your congregation members to donate to Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service or to Lutheran Disaster Response to alleviate the suffering of refugees and migrants through Lutheran partners in Hungary, Serbia and the Lutheran World Federation. Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains has provided additional information on Syrian Refugees. You may donate to Refugee resettlement specifically on the RMS territory through a gift to LFS designated for refugee and asylee services.

Invite congregation members to sign a petition addressed to President Barack Obama to accept Refugee Council USA's recommendation to our government to admit 200,000 refugees, including 100,000 refugees from Syria, in 2016. The petition can be signed online or downloaded for handwritten signatures.

Aurora Area Ministry Strategy starts NOW!

Cindy Robles (Diaconal Minister), left, is pictured with Deb Cote, new mission developer at Jess de Nazaret in Aurora
I would like to announce that we have officially began work on the Area Ministry Strategy in Aurora, CO. The purpose of the Area Ministry strategy is to work with the local congregations and the community to develop a strategy that will result in transformation of the lives of all who are involved.

The goal will be to reach out to our neighbors and create community partners in order to serve others as we are called to do. The hope is that in doing this our congregations will be renewed and the immigrants in our communities will be connected with resources they need to feel welcome and loved by their neighbors and by God.

The Greatest Commandment is to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. In doing so, our lives will be enriched, as well. The area ministry strategy will focus on issues of justice, poverty and hunger. These are important issues for all people in our communities. We look forward to what God has in store for us and what might come out of our working together.

Diaconal Minister

New RMS website to go live next week!

Internet records show that the website address "rmselca.org" was created on February 2, 1998. Now 18 years later, the Rocky Mountain Synod is almost ready to unveil a new dynamic website that will work as well on a mobile phone as on a computer screen.

"We are light years ahead with this new platform both in terms of the user experience and in terms of the ability to easily update the site," said the Rev. Kent Mueller, assistant to the bishop. "Studies now show mobile devices are used for visiting websites more than computers."

On the new site, the same information is presented in different formats depending on the size of the screen, so the experience on a mobile phone is much improved.

If all goes as planned, the new site will be fired up next week.
Advent 2015 Resources from "LEAD"

"LEAD" equips leaders and churches with coaches, immersions, and resources. During Advent 2015 "LEAD" has created a series of resources for Advent, including weekly Advent worship resources with bulletin covers that can be colored by participants and then merged together to create a colorful small mural when complete. Take part in coloring as a unique spiritual practice.

Find all of the resources at this link. Be certain to scroll down the page to find the worship resources and also various graphics for reproducing.

If you're shopping anyway...

We certainly aren't encouraging you to focus on the commercial aspect of Christmas... but if you're likely to purchase some items online from Amazon anyway, a small percentage will be donated by Amazon to the Rocky Mountain Synod if you use this link as your entry point to Amazon.

2015 MISSIONAL GATHERINGS
One final conference gathering!

This year's Missional Gatherings in each conference will help us explore our theme for the year, "Many Voices, One Song." The church is made of many voices, and each voice is as distinctive as the person or the community that sings it. The wonder of the project is how the voices all come together to make one song.

WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!

Consider an end-of-the-year gift
to the Better Together Fund

The Scriptures remind us that we are the Body of Christ, woven together for the sake of our witness to God's love and grace. As members of the ELCA we claim the power of being Christ's Church-Better Together.

At our Rocky Mountain Synod Assembly in May the Synod Council announced the Better Together Fund, an opportunity for those passionate about our shared ministry as a synod and as a global church to set aside one dollar a day (or more) for the foundational work we do together. Learn more and give a gift online. Currently the amount raised is over $36,000!

Gifts may be given online, or send in a check made out to Rocky Mountain Synod. Gifts of appreciated stock are also welcome, providing a smart gifting strategy. Send an email to Kent Mueller to receive information about giving a gift of stock.

They will welcome the refugees, help secure employment, teach cultural education, but most importantly, work towards self-sufficiency.  Today, at Lutheran Family Services, we will walk with the vulnerable.

Through these programs and many others, we provide services that heal, strengthen, and provide hope. We need YOU to walk along with us.
