Seeking several volunteers to migrate content to a new, improved RMS website!

The RMS website is not optimized to work well on phones and tablets, and it's difficult to update. We're working on a brand new website, and we are seeking several volunteers who would be able to assist with filling the new site with content. No coding expertise needed! If you can help out in the next couple weeks, please email Kent Mueller.

Worship resource provided for RMS "Church Together" Sunday on October 25

Our "Church Together" Sunday is an invitation for Rocky Mountain Synod congregations to worship in unity with one another, sharing together their Many Voices in One Song. You will use your typical worship experience, sharing words of the provided "Narrative Eucharist" throughout the liturgy, as a replacement for the Sunday sermon. The document includes some suggested hymns.

Download the resource as a Word document. Please contact the RMS Office of the Bishop if you are unable to open the document.

Submit feedback regarding new compensation guidelines by September 15

In October, Synod Council will be reviewing the compensation guidelines that were approved a year ago. The Compensation Committee welcomes feedback to learn how the guidelines have been received in congregations and if there are specific issues that should be addressed.

Please complete and submit this online form by September 15:

Day of Confession, Repentance, Prayer, & Commitment to End Racism -September 6

Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton has pledged the 3.8 million-member ELCA to participate on September 6 in "Confession, Repentance, and Commitment to End Racism Sunday."

We are asking every congregation to focus on race, while asking every pastor and leader to preach on race, reminded that out of one blood, God created all of us to dwell together in unity. Bishop Eaton said, "I will invite our bishops, pastors, and leaders to reach out to ecumenical and inter-religious partners to encourage them to do so as well, and to consider possible ways of joining together." More info.

New blog post from Bishop Gonia: The first three years!

METRO SOUTH INVITATION
September 10 at 11:30 a.m at Holy Trinity, Littleton

Metro South invitation: hear a guest speaker on effective transformation in organizations

Join the Metro South Conference Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 6322 S. Lakeview Littleton, for an opportunity to hear about the topic leadership in times of change with Chris Laping. He is the current co-founder and CEO of People Before Things, a business dedicated to change and business transformation.

Chris has 24 years in IT, 14 as a CIO and the past 8 years as the SVP of business transformation and CIO of Red Robin here in Denver. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, Harvard Business Review, The Economist and received numerous national awards for business leadership.

Chris Laping was part of the leadership team that transformed the Red Robin restaurant chain from the brink of failure to revenue over a billion dollars a year. They made hard changes and transformed culture, procedure and process. Chris is now dedicated to helping other organizations (such as churches!) do the same and thrive.  For a taste of what he offers please view this video. All are welcome! This is an opportunity you don't want to miss! (We'll be looking into recording the event and making it available online for those outside the Denver area.)

2015 MISSIONAL GATHERINGS
Eleven fall gatherings throughout
the RMS invite your participation

This year's Missional Gatherings in each conference will help us explore our theme for the year, "Many Voices, One Song." The church is made of many voices, and each voice is as distinctive as the person or the community that sings it. The wonder of the project is how the voices all come together to make one song.

But really, the voices don't make the song; the song invites the voices to take up the project of making God's music. That is because the song is God's-God's love song for this world loved so deeply and always unfolding in Jesus' good news. We come together this fall to listen for the song and join our voices to the "Gospel music" God is making in the world.

Denver Marriott West
West Denver, Colorado

We have big changes in store for the High School Synod Gathering this November 20-22! If you have been doing the gathering for years or this is your first time, this is going to be a great retreat. This year's theme is "The Pursuit". We will be focusing on our individual giftedness and how those gifts fit into and help to forms the greater community of faith.

"Cornerstone" volunteers needed for youth gatherings

Cornerstone is an important piece of the High School and Middle School Youth Gatherings held each year by the Rocky Mountain Synod. As Cornerstone you will help facilitate the gathering experience from setting up for the weekend, leading a bible study, setting a safe environment for participants or simply being a good listener and friend.

Cornerstone is the foundation for the gathering and their help is greatly appreciated by the planning team and those at the gathering.  If you are interested in being apart of the Cornerstone Team for the Senior High Youth Gathering, November 20-22, please e-mail Eric Plothow at ecplothow@aol.com or Kathryn Seyfarth at Kathryn@SkyRanchColorado.org for the application.

RMS Resolution on Israel: Resources For congregational study and action

In May, voting members to the 2015 Synod Assembly passed a resolution, calling on the US to make its aid to Israel contingent on Israel ending its settlement construction in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The resolution also called on the Peace Not Walls working group to gather resources for congregations and include these on the Synod website. Resources are now online.

WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!

Consider a gift to the Better Together Fund

The Scriptures remind us that we are the Body of Christ, woven together for the sake of our witness to God's love and grace. As members of the ELCA we claim the power of being Christ's Church-Better Together.

At our Rocky Mountain Synod Assembly in May the Synod Council announced the Better Together Fund, an opportunity for those passionate about our shared ministry as a synod and as a global church to set aside one dollar a day (or more) for the foundational work we do together.Learn more and give a gift online.
