Bishop Gonia's participation in Methodist conference is a sign of how we are "Church Together"
Bishop Jim Gonia was invited to participate in the 47th Session of the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church last weekend in Estes Park, akin to our annual Synod Assembly.
He was privileged to participate in their closing worship, which included ordinations and commissionings. The United Methodist Church is a full communion partner with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, making it possible for Bishop Gonia to participate in the laying-on-of-hands for the ordinations and commissionings for ministry. Bishop Gonia is pictured along with the UMC Bishop Elaine Stanovsky. Their theme this year is "Renewal of Creation."
The ELCA and UMC have been full communion partners for five years. This convention was the first demonstration of that new relationship. Additionally, an ELCA pastor, the Rev. Claire Cassell, will soon being serving a two-point UMC parish in southeast Colorado, our first Rocky Mountain Synod ELCA pastor serving a UMC parish.

In Memoriam
Alvoy F. Ekblad
We give thanks for the life and vision of Alvoy F. Ekblad, who died on June 1. Alvoy (Al) was one of a small group of enthusiasts who conceived, purchased, and built what then became Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp in Roosevelt National Forest. Al and Irene in their passion for helping others continued their support of Sky Ranch into recent years.
A celebration of his life took place on Saturday, June 6 at Trinity Lutheran church in Fort Collins. In consideration of Al's longtime devotion to Sky Ranch, the family would like donations in his memory to be directed to any of the following: Sky Ranch Lutheran Bible Camp, Larimer County Alzheimer's Support Group, or the Good Samaritan Society Loveland Village all in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
The Rev. John Hoeger
The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society mourns the loss of a past president, the Rev. John Hoeger, who died May 25 in Louisville, Colorado.
He served as a parish pastor in Kansas and California, before engaging in the Societys work for much of his adult life. One of Johns three sons is the Rev. Daniel Hoeger of Prospect Heights, Illinois, who previously served in the Rocky Mountain Synod in Louisville. Johns wife, Katherine, died in 2012. We give thanks for Pastor Hoegers faithful ministry, and we surround his family and friends with our prayers. A funeral service took place May 30 in Kissimmee, Florida.

Youth will participate in revitalizing Detroit at youth gathering
Living on a block with an abandoned home or two is common for Detroiters, and the city has precious few resources for dealing with such a widespread problem. Neighborhood blight is a health and safety risk to residents, attracts crime, and depresses property values.
This summer, during the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering, youth will participate in Detroit's neighborhood revitalization efforts by boarding up abandoned properties, making neighborhoods safer and healthier for the residents who remain.
While youth will provide the labor, we are in desperate need of supplies. If you know of a building supply company that could donate 4 X 8 OSB boards, please contact Lisa.Jeffrey@elca.org. You can also donate toward the purchase of supplies by going to www.elca.org/Gathering

Annual Holy Cross Pilgrimage is Saturday, July 11 at Vail
Again this year Mount of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vail, Colorado, will sponsor a pilgrimage hike climbing Notch Mountain (13,237), in order to view the Mount of the Holy Cross (14,005). Because of the popularity of this hike and due to U.S. Forest Service regulations which limit the group to no more than 15 persons at a time, reservations are required.
The date is Saturday July 11, 2015. The event will last from approximately 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a fairly strenuous hike and requires proper hiking gear for a trek in the back country.
